MSK members Pose and Revok (pictured above with gallerist Levine) recently visited New York City and immediately made their mark by being the current artists to work on the highly visible Bowery & Houston Mural (here & here). They also came into town to premiere respective new bodies of work at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. For those of you who couldn’t make it out to check out Into The Dark, a group exhibition in Newcastle’s Victoria Tunnel presented by Unit 44, here are some photos to give you an idea of what the experience was like. Openings: “California-Pacific Triennial” @ OCMA

Over the weekend, AM stopped by the Orange County Musuem of Art to take a look at the 2013 California-Pacific Triennial that just opened, in particular Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) installation. Along with some paintings he submitted, the Los Angeles-based artist also painted a room with his signature patterns and added some interesting adornments. Opening last week at MOCA’s Geffen location was A New Sculpturalism, a show that examines the work of thirty-eight major and emerging practices in contemporary Los Angeles architecture of the past twenty-five years. Well-known legends represented in the show include Frank Gehry, Thom Mayne, and Eric Owen Moss, while younger architects, such as Elena Manferdini (Atelier Manferdini), Marcelo Spina and Georgina Huljich (P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S), and Tom Wiscombe (Tom Wiscombe Design) show off their abilities with three full-scale built projects, or pavilions. Openings: Sam Moyer / Mika Tajima and Graham Collins @ Halsey McKay

Over the weekend, we drove out to East Hampton to check out the two current shows at Halsey McKay. On the gallery’s ground floor is a two-person exhibition by Sam Moyer and Mika Tajima (seen above) entitled Midori Mambo Black Russian. Moyer contributed several framed black and white painted glass and dyed canvas works resembling abstracted seascapes, which were nicely juxtaposed with Tajima’s colorful and glossy paintings (technically “reverse spray enameled thermoformed acrylic objects”). Last week, Marianne Boesky Gallery put together a hot (NSFW) group show just in time for the warm weather to hit New York City. Entitled Sunsets & Pussy, this show brings together three generations of artists – Ed Ruscha, Lucien Smith, Betty Tompkins and Piotr Uklański. Each artist contributed works that explored two classic themes of summer wonder. Some tongue in cheek and some a little more subtle, this showcase features some interesting and creative take on the creative theme. Check out a NSFW look below.

Last week, Eleven Rivington (11 Rivington Street location) unveiled a new body of work from Brooklyn-based artist Israel Lund. This intriguing exhibition showcases Lund’s interesting viewpoint and technique. His creative process often starts as an image of nothing, which he then repeatedly silkscreens and forces ink onto the null area. He then manipulates the image by enlarging, degrading or distorting it systematically thus eventually creating something out of nothing. Opera Gallery London is pleased to present a collection of David Bowie-inspired art, in parallel to the Victoria and Albert Museum milestone retrospective David Bowie Is. The group exhibition The Many Faces of David Bowie is featuring a contemporary vision of ‘Bowie Mania’ with one-off masterpieces including tributes from some of today’s leading contemporary and street artists.
