Openings: Push – “Adaptation” @ Known Gallery

For those who missed the three day only showing from PUSH at the Known Gallery, our friends at LA Taco have some photos of the event. Presented by Simple Mobile, Adaptation featured a setup from the LA-based graffiti artist that cleverly brought his signature patterns indoors, which at the same time transformed his usual 2D work into a three-dimensional interactive walkthrough installation. Openings: Know Hope – “The Abstract And The Very Real” @ Lazarides Rathbone

Last night, Lazarides Rathbone in London opened their doors to the new solo show from Know Hope. The Abstract And The Very Real consisted of clusters of paintings and assemblages, often utilizing found objects, that collectively put forth the Tel Aviv-based artist’s ode to the human spirit, manifested in his signature characters, imagery, and motifs. Openings: Kevin Earl Taylor – “Monument Adrift” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, the Breeze Block Gallery played host to a new show from Kevin Earl Taylor entitled Monument Adrift. The exhibition feature his landscapes that include various creatures which are almost treated architecturally in some instances, placed on pedestals, incorporated into decaying structures, or portrayed as building blocks. Openings: Cleon Peterson – ‘There is a War’ @ The Outsiders

Cleon Peterson recently brought his highly stylised and violent imagery to London for his first solo exhibition in the UK. There is a War opened at The Outsiders’ Soho gallery space on Thursday July 4th with a selection of  works from his Brinksman series as well as his wonderful tableaux street scenes so full of multi-dimensional blood drenched villainy. Openings: ‘Word Play’ @ Design Matters

A little while back we brought you a preview of some of the work for Word Play, hosted at Design Matters Gallery in Los Angeles. The premise of the exhibition excited us as the curated theme was based around text within art. The group exhibition was curated by Stephanie Chefas, of Platinum Cheese blog fame and features a variety of artists from very different backgrounds but all commonly using text in their work though a range of styles and mediums. Brett Amory – “Twenty-Four in New York” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Last month, AM attended the opening of Brett Amory’s (featured) new solo show entitled Twenty-Four in New York. For his second showing at Jonathan LeVine Gallery (alongside POSE & REVOK), the SF-based artist continued his series of works documenting various locations in selected cities, all in one hour increments. Rounding out the paintings, were the display of found objects at the spots he featured as well as a site-specific installation which incorporated a magazine stand with structural components. Openings: Momo in Grottaglie, Italy

Last weekeend in Grottaglie, Italy in the ceramic district, the geometrically inclined Momo opened up a solo show. Put on by the people behind the annual Fame Festival, the exhibition featured pieces that were very similar to the abstract murals that the street muralist has been known for. His use of color and the balanced composition bely a fine hand behind each work. Openings: Sylvia Ji – “Interwoven” @ FFDG

San Francisco native and now Los Angeles-based painter, Sylvia Ji, opened her solo show Interwoven at Fecal Face Dot Gallery last Friday evening. The show featured new paintings on wood that feature traditional patterns interwoven with The Day of the Dead motifs as well as expanding on her work with the female form incorporating similar elements.
