You may remember that earlier this year we reported on an amazing trip by Matt Small (interviewed), Swoon (interviewed), RJ Rushmore (from Vandalog), and Mike Snelle from Black Rat Projects (interviewed) to Zambia to run a series of art activities with local children at the Robert Shitima School. Last Saturday in Paris, a special show from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Evah Fan opened at Galerie L.J. The American duo each brought separate bodies of work entitled “Figments” and “Come What May” respectively and both included paintings as well as sculptural works. Yoshitomo Nara Statues Up in New York

Over the weekend, New York was gifted two new sculptural installations from Yoshitomo Nara, placed in conjunction with his retrospective at the Asia Society, set to open on September 9th. The pair of 12-foot-high fiberglass dogs are on the Upper East Side (one across from the entrance to the Asia Society and the other just in front of the Park Avenue Armory) and will stand guard throughout the exhibition set to run until the beginning of next year. Last Friday, Sarah Joncas (interviewed) trekked down all the way from Ontario, Canada to attend the opening of her solo show at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Her newest body of work, “Siren”, is inspired by the seduction and romance of music and includes a large-scale mural, the timelapse of which we showed you last week. For those Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) fans out there, if you haven’t heard already, scheduled for later today is a rare print release from the LA-based artist. At 1:00 PM Pacific Time, “Migawari” will be available on her webstore (pre-registration required) with a framed and unframed option.
