Teaser: Shepard Fairey – “Supply & Demand” @ Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center

Shepard Fairey (featured) is ready to debut his “Supply & Demand” retrospective at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in Cincinnati this week. The third leg of this traveling show will be a treat for all the folks in the Midwest as events kick off for the public with an opening party on Friday at 8pm. As usual the man with a plan is already beautifying the urban landscapes of Cincy as he did (here & here) with the previous stops at ICA Boston and Warhol […]

Mark Ryden is set to open his new show “The Gay 90’s” in Chelsea’s Paul Kasmin Gallery at the end of April. Back for his first solo since his “Snow Yak” show in Tokyo’s Tomio Koyama, Mark looks to take NYC by storm. Mark your calendars as it opens April 29th. For now we leave you with a teaser of this show stopper that we saw at Kasmin’s booth at Art Basel. More details after the jump…

Teaser: David Choe – “Nothing To Declare” @ Lazarides (Beverly Hills)

David Choe (featured) fans in LA rejoice! As he explains in a way only he can on his blog, it’s apparently been six years since his last solo and he wants to make it up to the Angelinos. After seeing his recent sold out show in SF, we are looking forward to “Nothing To Declare” with Lazarides in April at a yet to be disclosed Beverly Hills location and will definitely have more to follow as the show gets closer. Another show card after the […]

Teaser: KAWS @ Galería Javier López

A pretty big show that seems to have been flying under the radar is KAWS’ upcoming show this month in Spain. Galería Javier López will be paying host to a new body of work from the New York-based street turned contemporary artist with the opening set for February 17th. It’s been almost a year since his solo at Honor Fraser and we’re sure that we aren’t the only ones fiendin’ for their KAWS fix. Discuss KAWS here.

Teaser: Sarah Joncas – “Shadow Play” @ Roq La Rue

Canadian artist Sarah Joncas will be opening a show next month (February 12th) in Seattle at the Roq La Rue Gallery. It sounds like her new body of work will deal with the idea of shadows, either imprinted onto the character or created by the character themselves and will be appropriately named “Shadow Play”. She will be showing alongside French artist Ciou – take a look at a show card after the jump…

Teaser: Jonathan LeVine Five Year Anniversary Group Show

James Jean (interviewed) recently posted up images of two small paintings (12″ x 12″) for the upcoming Jonathan LeVine Five Year Anniversary Group Show. The two pieces are beautiful although disturbing as they feature shoemakers, but also what appear to be children – bringing up thoughts of child labor (one of them seen smoking). An intriguing start to a show we are naturally excited about, considering the pedigree of artist that has come through the LeVine gallery through the years. It opens on February 27th […]

Teaser: The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade @ Lazarides (Greek Street)

Probably the show that AM is looking forward to most next month would be the Faile and Bast UK show at Lazarides opening February 12th. Both floors of the Greek Street location will be taken over by the Brooklyn duo and long-time collaborator Bast in what is promised to be an truly immersive installation with “80’s populist culture” as the stated source of inspiration (perhaps referenced in the title and logo for the show seen above). Also as a tease, proportedly there will be an […]

Teaser: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “In Case You’re Lost” @ Frey Norris

During the winter break, AM dropped by Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama’s (interviewed) studio to check out his progress for his first solo with San Francisco gallery Frey Norris. He’s definitely stepped his game up and this latest evolution of his signature characters, colors and patterns had our eyes glued to the studio walls. For all you West Coasters, save the date because the show opens on February 4th (6pm-8pm). Keep your eyes peeled for our preview in the coming weeks. Discuss Matsu here.

Teaser: Case @ Signal Gallery

After opening his solo in LA last October, Andreas von Chrzanowski aka case (part of the Ma’Claim crew) is set to open a solo show at the Signal Gallery (interviewed) in conjunction with Campbarbossa. As evidenced by the piece above, his photorealistic spray paint skills are off the charts. The show, “Never odd or eveN” opens on February 18th in London. Via Vandalog.

Teaser: David Choe – “Character Assassination” @ FIFTY24SF

David Choe will be returning to his roots this February 5th with a solo show at FIFTY24SF. Interestingly enough, David’s first gallery show ever, almost a decade ago, was at the fledgling FIFTY24SF gallery. For “Character Assassination,” Choe will be bringing a new body of paintings and prints – even some that were believed to be long sold out.  David recently sent us a teaser pic, however, we had to put it after the jump as it’s NSFW, not that anything David does should ever […]
