Bergen-based artist Naeem Searle aka NIMI recently spent couple of days in Stavanger painting his piece for the latest addition to Nuart Festival‘s ongoing Art City initiative. Following recent works from Felipe Pantone (covered) and Natalia Rak (covered), Cinta Vidal has just completed her contribution to the RAD Napa project (curated by Thinkspace and sponsored by The Napa Valley Wine Train). The piece from the Spanish artist featured some of the architectural imagery and play with perspective that she has become known for. Following up on his work with Prada in 2008 and other projects through the years, James Jean (interviewed) has collaborated with the Italian fashion house on part of their 2018 resort collection. Staged for the first time at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio in Milan, the runway show featured the illustrator and visual artist’s imagery prominently on parkas, a pantsuit, dresses as well as many of the handbags. Just released (May 5) in limited New York theaters is BURDEN, a feature-length documentary on Chris Burden. The film, by Timothy Marrinan & Richard Dewey, provides an overview of the artist’s fascinating and controversial life through archival and original footage. Recently in Culver City, California, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) was able to paint some of his signature characters on the sides of a building overlaid over a colorful background of drips. It looks like while there, he also took time to continue his series of what he calls Karbombz where he paints the outside of a lucky fan’s automobile. Last weekend, Double Knotted, Casey Gray’s first solo show with Hashimoto Contemporary opened in San Francisco. The new body of work from the locally-based artist continues his explorations of still life with his unique technique utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking (check out the video below). Gray’s carefully curated selection of objects are arranged into vibrant compositions, a masterful example being the large 8 x 6 foot showstopper piece. On April 1st, Hashimoto Contemporary will present a new body or work from Casey Gray in their San Francisco space. Entitled Double Knotted, this will the first solo at the gallery by the locally-based artist featuring his special form of still life utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking techniques. Continuing his series of works in hard to reach locations, Hula recently painted a mural on the edge of a waterfall entitled Maka’u. Dealing with issues of fear, as suggested by the title, on multiple levels, the piece saw the Oahu-raised artist otherwise known as Sean Yoro suspend himself on the edge of a waterway on surfboard as he took risks to paint an image of a person hanging on by a rope.
