We now arrive to the concluding post for Art Los Angeles Contemporary. Fear not, dedicated AM reader, there is still a lot of great art to be seen here, including works by Mike Kelley (above), Sterling Ruby, Liz Craft, and Jim Shaw, and galleries such as Honor Fraser, Steve Turner Contemporary, Marc Foxx, and Patrick Painter. StolenSpace’s official start to 2010 has arrived in the shape of “Original Culture” featuring an Anglo-Italian line up of Ericailcane, DEM and Will Barras. Will Barras was at the opening this Thursday night, and his element of the show consisted of a series of stunning and poignant works painted in situ. London art fans turned out this Thursday night to witness the most simultaneously fun and original show we’ve witnessed since, well, probably ever! The “Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” is in town and after a week of installation time, is now officially open for business! Faile (aka: the Patricks) and Bast transformed the ground floor into a fully functioning video game arcade, with old school cabinets – some of which we recognized from our misspent youth – being given the paste-up treatment. Last week, Ryan McGinness (featured) had an opening in Madrid’s Casa Encendida. The show “Studio Franchise” was not only the NYC artist’s classic works, but also a glimpse into his studio. Ryan replicated his studio in a giant installation to give art goers an idea of how he came to create some of his gems. Our friends at TWBE let us know about photographer Todd Selby’s latest photo-documentation of artists within their spaces, this time with Mr., one of Takashi Murakami’s protégés. Selby had a chance to photograph the eccentric Japanese artist in his studio and home outside of Tokyo. Obviously, Mr.’s fascination with anime and manga is not contained to his art, as he surrounds himself with illustrated books, posters, and pillows, both at work and at home.
