POW! WOW!: 2013 Video Review & 2014 Preview

POW WOW ’19 / Streets: Shepard Fairey

Last month in Honolulu, Shepard Fairey (interviewed) created a mural for this year’s edition of POW! WOW! Hawaii. Attending the street art festival for the first time, the American artist decided to address  global warming and preserving the environment for future generations with his new piece entitled Golden Future? Working through his birthday, the wall was completed with the help of his mural crew and featured his distinctive palette and imagery. POW WOW ’19 / Previews: “My Neighbor Hayao” @ Ala Moana Center

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! HAWAII, Spoke Art will be presenting a group exhibition entitled My Neighbor Hayao. The tribute show to the Hayao Miyazki features work from over 100 international artists (like Dan Mumford above) each contributing an interpretation of their favorite Miyazaki films, characters and scenes. This special weekend-only showing will be on view inside Ala Moana Center (unit 1234) from February 13-17.          

Streets: World Roundup (Sept 2018)

It’s been a long while since our last Streets World Roundup but we felt like sharing so here’s a look at some recent street art. Headlining things is this clever series of handpainted sequential billboard takeovers from Mobstr (interviewed). Not sure where these pieces are located, but presumably in the UK somewhere. Wherever they are, the text-based work is a prime example of his wittiness, talent for placement, and minimalistic aesthetic.
