The vaults under Waterloo Station have been taken over by artistic director Kevin Spacey and his team from the Old Vic Theatre for their latest venture: Tunnel 228.Â A very cool “pop up” art show and theatre experience that seems to have come out of nowhere. “Hello and Goodbye” (featured) the latest body of work from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened this past Saturday at LeBasse Projects. The show featured some of Yamamoto’s largest paintings to date and the level of detail and techniques employed by Yoskay for these new pieces clearly show his artistic growth since his last solo. AM stopped by Billy Shire Fine Arts to catch Mars-1’s latest show. Hot off his last show “Nuclear Mystics” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Mars-1 continued his direction of creating larger pieces that capture the grand-scale feeling his imagery evokes. The show also featured new resin statues in a color we did not see at his last show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Check out all the detailed pics after the jump.

Last night, the artist community and fans were out in full force for the opening of Travis Louieâ€™s (interviewed) “Strange Grooming Habits” at the Bergamot Station. For this show at Copro Gallery, Louie dressed up the bizarre denizens of his imagination in stately garb and painted them in his signature style of emulating vintage photography from the Victorian era. Teaser: FAME Festival 2009

Studio Cromie just announced their lineup for “FAME Festival 2009,” an outdoor art event held from June through September in which street and contemporary artists from across the globe descend on Italy to create some spectacular murals across the city of Grottaglie. The festival will draw to a close on September 19th with a group show featuring new work from the participating artists, print and book releases, as well as a tour around town to see all the artwork. Fresh off his “Amused Loon” show last October at Joshua Liner, Damon Soule returns to his former stomping grounds with a new body of work. Entitled “Same Loud No“, Soule’s triumphant return to the Bay Area (his last show was in ’06) boasts a bevy of geometrics, prime numbers, acid casualties and other-worldy existence. Japanese artist Usugrow, best known for his collaborative projects with Upper Playground and Vans, debuted his latest project “Shinganist” at FIFTY24SF last night.
