Streets: Os Gemeos x JR (Paris)

The Brazilian brothers Os Gemeos are currently in Europe, working on a couple of different projects. Their first stop was in Paris where they collaborated with a long time friend and fellow artist/photographer, JR (interviewed), creating an installation in the tunnels of the Palais de Tokyo. During their stay at the French capital, the twins spent three days creating works for the ongoing Lasco Project curated by Hugo Vitrani. Similar to their NYC collaborations a few months ago (covered), once again they mixed JR’s photography -based pasteups with their signature yellow characters, producing […]

Upcoming: Josh Keyes – “Overgrown” @ Archimedes Gallery

Continuing to work with Archimedes Gallery, located just west of Portland, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be presenting a new body of work come June 25th. The locally-based artist will be showing his post-apocalyptic visions of nature’s reclamation in a show entitled Overgrown alongside the sculptures of Eva Funderburgh. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Streets: ROID x Pref (London)

Continuing to share wall space together on occasion, ROID & Pref joined up recently on this sick collab in London. Interestingly painting strictly in black and white in this instance, the unique geometric style of the MSK affiliated ROID was the perfect foil to the ID crew writer Pref’s signature overlapping technique. Take a look at more closeup and in progress photos below… Photo credit: The artists and tdog86. Discuss ROID here.

Releases: Reka Ultimate Ears Artist Edition Speaker

Ultimate Ears has collaborated with James Reka, aka RekaOne, on a very recently released (in the US and Europe) artist edition UE Boom2 mobile speaker. Influenced by the artist’s teenage years spent drawing and tagging on his boombox, the piece is titled Lost Time, for losing oneself in the moment. The limited edition product is covered in the artist’s signature illustrations on the acoustic skin and instantly brings added style to your music listening enjoyment. The portable speaker sounds great, with good amplification and deep bass – just like what […]

Previews: “Dream Covers” @ Krab Jab Studios

Tonight at Krab Jab Studios in Seattle, a gallery specializing in the publication arts, group show Dream Covers will open. Curated by Lauren Panepinto, who has been designing and art-directing book covers for 13 years, the exhibition asks the question of what artists would created if they could illustrate covers only to please themselves. Participating artists include Marc Scheff, Tran Nguyen (seen above with her choice of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman), Rebecca Yanovskaya, Jeremy Wilson, Laurie Lee Brom, Brom, Wylie Beckert, Dan Dos Santos, Dave Palumbo, […]

Previews: Josh Reames – “Wet & Wild” @ Brand New Gallery

Tomorrow night (April 9th) in Milan, Brand New Gallery will be presenting new works from Josh Reames in a solo entitled Wet & Wild. The Brooklyn-based artist’s paintings are almost collage like in their composition, putting together a stream of consciousness collection of subject matter. He explains – “One thing that I am really interested in is the way that the Internet—browsing, blog rolling, etc.—takes away the hierarchy of image importance, meaning, and connection… I think about painting in a similar way, where images, marks, art historical […]

Streets / Recap: 352walls (Gainesville)

Back in November of 2015, the city of Gainesville coordinated the beginning of 352walls (The Gainesville Urban Art Initiative project). Curated by Iryna Kanishcheva, the first edition of the event was recently completed while producing 11 murals by internationally recognized artists, plus 10 murals by local artists and a bunch of electrical boxes interventions throughout the Floridian city’s downtown. Some of the murals produced include a three step deconstruction of another mural previously done in Argentina by Franco Fasoli Jaz; a repetitive modular abstract piece by Elian Chali; the What Are the Aesthetics of Reinvestment […]

Streets: Pangeaseed – “Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans” (New Zealand) – Part II

After a look at some of the artists at work on their pieces for the Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans project sponsored by the PangeaSeed Foundation, here is a look at some select walls they painted. The muralists were invited in by the non-profit in Napier, New Zealand to create works to raise awareness for ocean environmental issues. The beautiful piece painted above was Askew (photo by Olivia Laita). Take a look at more of the walls below…

Previews: Paul Insect – “It’s Only A Dream” @ Allouche Gallery (London Popup)

Only few days before the opening of a long awaited London solo by Paul Insect, we got a nice peek at the artist’s studio while he was adding final touches to the new pieces. Presented by Allouche Gallery, the pop-up show will open on the 9th of April and will stay on view for 6 days at a yet undisclosed location in East London. The British artist started working on this new body of work right after doing his part for the Dismaland project (covered), creating 30 signature […]
