After Todd “REAS” James opened his show in Paris last year and New York early this year, he turned his attention to Miami where he went to town on OHWOW’s Bar location. As one of the group artists who will be doing new installs approximately every 2 months, REAS certainly left his mark last month by painting all his classic imagery on all the available wall space. Opening tomorrow night at Jonathan LeVine Gallery is James Marshall’s (interviewed) latest show entitled “And There Was War in Heaven.” With this new body of work, the artist formerly known as Dalek continues down the path of near-total geometric abstraction, with few or no references remaining to his early space monkey character. On Friday, AM had the pleasure of attending one of Ryan McGinness‘ exclusive 50 Parties events held at his SOHO studio. Given that all the major New York auction houses had held their fall sales during the week, it was appropriate that McGinness’ party that night was itself an auction – but one in which the artists themselves were the sellers, with no auction house taking a commission.
