Basel Week Miami ’10: “The Sticker Wall” @ Wynwood Walls

We recently showed you images of Shepard Fairey down in Miami installing his mural inside this year’s Wynwood Walls cafe (covered). Well, more images have just surfaced from the Wynwood Walls project, courtesy of legendary street photographer Martha Cooper. Apparently, right next to Shepard’s wall will be one organized by “Stickers: Stuck-Up Piece of Crap” authors DB Burkeman and Monica LoCascio. The “Sticker Wall,” which officially launches during Art Basel Miami 2010, will be a place where artists and the general public can celebrate sticker […]

Publications: tasj (vol ii – issue iii)

As avid followers of the activities and accomplishments of Shepard Fairey […]

Studio Visits / Preview: Ernesto Yerena Montejano – ‘GANAS 2020′ @ White Walls Gallery

Some weeks back, AM spent time with Ernesto Yerena Montejano at his garage studio in Los Angeles. Over the course of three and a half years, until summer 2009, Yerena worked as an artist assistant for Shepard Fairey at both Studio Number One and Studio Number Two (featured). We were able to have a look around as he now prepared for GANAS 2020, his debut solo show which opens this Saturday, November 13th at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco and runs until December 4th. The exhibition is named after a fictional community-based movement Yerena has created […]

Streets / Teaser: ROA with Pop-Up Show (Los Angeles)

Last weekend, we visited with ROA as he worked on his first street piece in Los Angeles (7th and Mateo). It was produced in assocation with The LA Freewalls Project (other artists in the neighborhood for The LA Freewalls Project include Saber, Shepard Fairey, Herakut, and Ron English).  As usual, there is always more to his pieces that meets the eye – check out the tail action. The Belgium-based artist is in town for his pop-up show next week at the New Puppy Gallery (presented […]

“WALLWORKS” @ The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

In a project reminiscent of the old parking structure at the LACMA (now demolished), the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has commissioned several artists to christen each level of their parking garage with their signature imagery. The new hotel, which you may recognize from their recent commercial with “Just the Right Amount of Wrong”, now has permanent murals, entitled widely as “WALLWORKS”, from Kenny Scharf, Retna, Shepard Fairey, and Shinique Smith. We have not even told you about the inside of the hotel as it sounds […]

Preview: Rosson Crow – “Myth of the American Motorcycle” @ Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati)

Opening next month, “Myth of the American Motorcycle” at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (previously the site of the Shepard Fairey retrospective) will feature the vibrant paintings of Rosson Crow (featured). The exhibition, fueled by Rosson’s love for motorcycle lore, combines her expansive-retro style with the thematic choice of an American icon – a perfect match. The opening is on November 5th at 8 pm (open to the public), with an artist’s talk scheduled for the next day, November 6th at 2 pm. The exhibition […]

Opening & Closing: The Hole’s “RE:FORM School” Charity Exhibit

A couple weekends ago, The Hole in conjunction with non-profit organization Redu called upon a diverse collection of artists to help shine a much needed light on the increasingly strained American school systems by donating their talents to raise money for educational reform. Aptly dubbed RE:FORM School, the show brought together an eclectic array of contemporary and street artists, including Shepard Fairey, Faile, WK Interact, Mel Kadel, Ron English, Greg Lamarche, Gary Baseman, Chris Johanson, SWOON, Friends With You, Jim Houser, TrustoCorp, Ryan Bubnis and […]

Teaser: “Street/Studio 2.0” @ Irvine Contemporary

For street artists, location has always been as important, if not more so, than the artwork itself. The site informs the conception – and perception – of the work down to it’s very core. On November 6th, Irvine Contemporary will explore this unique relationship with a group of artists that have been bringing the street into the studio for years. With such street art legends as José Parlá, Shepard Fairey, SWOON, James Marshall (Dalek), David Ellis, Romon Yang (Rostarr) and Gaia, Street/Studio 2.0 will spotlight […]
