Fresh off the clamoring success of Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary bash in Southern California, Small Gift Los Angeles (covered), the art exhibition and pop-up store tag team celebration will be traveling down to South Beach next week to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. We recently showed you images of Shepard Fairey down in Miami installing his mural inside this year’s Wynwood Walls cafe (covered). Well, more images have just surfaced from the Wynwood Walls project, courtesy of legendary street photographer Martha Cooper. Some weeks back, AM spent time with Ernesto Yerena Montejano at his garage studio in Los Angeles. Over the course of three and a half years, until summer 2009, Yerena worked as an artist assistant for Shepard Fairey at both Studio Number One and Studio Number Two (featured). We were able to have a look around as he now prepared for GANAS 2020, his debut solo show which opens this Saturday, November 13th at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco and runs until December 4th. In a project reminiscent of the old parking structure at the LACMA (now demolished), the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has commissioned several artists to christen each level of their parking garage with their signature imagery. Recently, AM attended the VIP preview of Tachen’s latest art book: Trespass: A History of Uncommissioned Urban Art. Written by Carlo McCormick, curated by our friends Marc & Sara Schiller at the Wooster Collective, and edited by Ethel Seno, this behemoth houses tons of pictures documenting graffiti and other forms of unsanctioned art all around the globe.
