A Road Map to Art Basel Week Miami 2009

Here’s a condensed road map of the main fairs we’ll be hitting up as well as a breakdown of all the special events worth checking out while in Miami below. This is by no means a full listing of all the fairs or special events, but these are the main events happening that feature artists and galleries from our movement. There will be much to discover out of sheer happenstance once in Miami. Look for the AM crew at every turn, as we’ll be out […]

Openings and Benefit: Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Auction & Party

The much anticipated Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary party (previewed) went off this past Saturday and drew over 2,000 art lovers to the newly remodeled Factory Place Arts Complex in downtown Los Angeles. Mister Cartoon had all his classic rides out on display in the outside area as well as a beautiful chopper and his show-stopping pimped out Ice Cream truck inside with the rest of the art on display. Over 140 pieces were on view including just about every major name in our movement. If you […]

Showing: Lava Collective “Cityscape” Group Show @ Dray Walk Gallery London

AM happened upon this good looking pop-up show at the Dray Walk Gallery in London’s Truman Brewery complex this week organised by the freshly formed Lava Collective. Lava brought over Brooklyn residents Peru Ana Ana Peru for their first showing of work in the UK, and their installation dominated the huge space. Peru Ana Ana Peru had just opened a show at Brooklynite Gallery a couple of weeks back (covered here), and we felt their use of audio and visual media as part of the […]

Openings: Jeremy Fish @ Laguna Art Museum

AM visited Jeremy Fish this past weekend in Laguna for the opening of “Weathering the Storm”, his first solo museum show. As you may well remember from our studio visit, Fish has created an entirely new body of work for this exhibit, featuring a variety of sizes and mediums. Fans turned out in droves, many coming from as far as San Francisco to attend the opening. In attendance were art scene staples such as Lynzy Blair of FIFTY24SF, Juxtapoz’s Matt Revelli and Evan Prico, Fecal […]

Highlights: Recommended Openings For Nov 5 – Nov 8

Things are heating up this weekend as we head into the holidays with the big art fairs in London and Miami just around the corner. There are just SO many amazing shows around the world this weekend. Hard to pick just one to highlight here, but with Jeremy Fish invading the halls of the Laguna Art Museum this weekend, our movement takes another huge stride towards mainstream acceptance from the art world at large. Opening in conjunction with “Collecting California: Selections from Laguna Art Museum” […]

Highlights: Recommended Openings For Oct 28 – Nov 3

For those lucky enough to find themselves in NYC this Halloween weekend, you should consider yourselves blessed by the art gods as you will be in the presence of greatness. The one and only Robert Williams returns with his first major showing (previewed) in almost five years at the esteemed Tony Shafrazi Gallery in the heart of Chelsea. Shafrazi’s new gallery took over a year to design, build and transform the space into one of the most beautiful in New York. The grand staircase leads […]

Openings: “Stencil Art Show” @ White Walls

Saturday, October 10th saw the opening of the Stencil Art Show at White Walls in San Francisco.  Featuring Shepard Fairey and Studio Number One protege Ernesto Yerena, the photo-realism of David Soukup, graffiti cum graphic design of Tes One (teased), Easter basket palette of Casey Gray and haunting alleys of Adam 5100‘s mind, the Stencil Art Show appears to have been a success.  Reasonable asking prices have led to a well-selling show, a vital blueprint in today’s downtrodden but buyer friendly market.  Detail and opening […]

Publications / Book Launch: Street Artists – The Complete Guide @ Pure Evil Gallery

If you are anything like the guys at AM, then you love to read and collect art books… Street Art has been widely documented over the last 25 years, since Martha Cooper (interviewed) and Henry Chalfant’s (interviewed) now legendary “Subway Art” hit the shelves back in 1984. We recently heard that a new tome entitled “Street Artists: The Complete Guide” is going to be launched by Graffito Books at London’s Pure Evil Gallery on September 24th (from 6pm onwards). “Street Artists: The Complete Guide” is […]

Preview: Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Art Auction

Fifteen years is a long time. For a magazine & brand that pioneered coverage of art that nobody else wanted to cover, Juxtapoz has come a long way. Humble websites like ours probably would not be around if not for their efforts to expose our generation to artists who otherwise would not have gotten any publicity. So imagine what a treasure trove of works they will be able to come up with for a 15th Anniversary Auction. We are salivating just thinking about it. The […]

Interviews / Studio Visits: D*Face

D*Face is undoubtedly one of the most important artists working within the realms of street art today. His bold compositions and daring outdoor work continues to push the boundaries to new levels. AM was lucky to be invited into D’s studio to carry out an interview with the man himself, just ahead of him flying out to New York for his much anticipated solo show at Jonathan Levine Gallery “Ludovico Aversion Therapy / All Your Dreams Belong To Us” (teased). Taking part of it’s name […]
