Tomorrow night (August 3rd) in Denver, the Black Book Gallery will host a three person show from Shepard Fairey, Evan Hecox, and Jim Houser. The Mile-High City last saw Shep’s work at Manifest Hope during the 2008 Democratic National Convention, but if the art community has forgotten, the OBEY crew has been up and about putting up reminders with stickers, stencils and wheat pastes. Streets: Shepard Fairey – “Rise Above Rebel Woman” (Paris)

Shepard Fairey (featured) and the OBEY crew were recently in Paris for a new mural put together by the Mairie of 13th district, Mehdi from Galerie Itinerrance and Butterfly. The piece was part of a unfunded regeneration project of the area, called Street Art 13, which given has huge walls to many international artists. We have already directed your attention to two murals (here & here) which marked the passing of late Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys, and now we have another tribute to add to the mix. Shepard Fairey recently has put up several pieces around Los Angeles, utilizing a Glen E. Friedman photo, in remembrance of the music legend at a couple locations (Sunset at Las Palmas and another on Fairfax just south of Santa Monica Boulevard). RIP. Image via the artist & FRESHNGOOD. Last Friday AM attended a preview of Shepard Fairey’s (featured) solo exhibition Harmony & Discord with blue chip gallery Pace Prints. As shared in our recent studio visit, this epic show was over a year in the making. Remember this cover (also released as a print) from Shepard Fairey (featured) that was commissioned for new Penguin Book editions of George Orwell’s dystopian classic 1984 several years back? Word has now leaked that Mr. Obey will take a similar route as his friend and fellow street artist across the pond, Banksy, and get into film. Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) brought the OBEY show to Dallas for a series of street murals at the request of the Dallas Contemporary. In conjunction with the project, the institution which is modeled after European kunsthalles or art centers also hosted PHENOMENON, a party with Shep providing the music as DJ Diabetic. Streets: Shepard Fairey (Brooklyn)

After Shepard Fairey hit up the streets of Manhattan last summer, he made a stop in the borough of Brooklyn as well. AM rode along to catch Mr. Obey working spots both big and small while him and his crew went to work on their community beautification campaign. We saw him push through a number of mediums, from his detailed hand-painted wheatpastes to his newer stencils without tire. Check out all the action captured for us by Joe Russo after the jump.
