Shepard Fairey Cover: Time Person of the Year – The Protester

Shepard Fairey (featured) has designed the latest cover of TIME magazine for their Person of the Year issue which this year honors the “Protester”. If you remember, Mr. Obey also created the cover for the 2008 rendition where the annual award went to President Obama. The choice for this year is certainly a representation of world events from Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street, activism has hit an all-time high in recent memory and who better to commemorate this than an artist who is a […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Barracuda Wall) Los Angeles

Over the weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew continued their large scale projects by pasting over the famed Barracuda wall. Last time we saw Fairey working on this wall was late last year when he collaborated with  SABER (interviewed) on a dual rendering of the American Flag (covered). This time around, Fairey has decided to use his name and recognition as a way to highlight and bring attention to a political cause affecting Native Americans. This latest mural is actually a collaborative piece between Fairey […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey – La Brea Mural (Completed)

Last week, AM stopped by for a visit with Shepard Fairey (featured) and the OBEY crew as they started work on the La Brea mural. The huge wall that wrapped around the former Continental Graphic’s building was created in association with the District La Brea group show (covered) at MK2 Projects. We went back for a second look at the completed piece the other day and to capture some images for you. Take a look at the photo set from our ©Carlos Gonzalez after the jump…

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Los Angeles) Part I

As we mentioned earlier today, the MK2 Projects District La Brea group show will be opening tomorrow night. In association with the show, a mural will be created by Shepard Fairey (featured) on the former Continental Graphic’s building. AM stopped to catch the progress of Mr. Obey and his crew as they started work on the 30 foot high mural. Take a look at all the photos taken by our ©Carlos Gonzalez after the jump…

Streets: David Flores x Shepard Fairey (Los Angeles)

David Flores and Shepard Fairey (featured) continue to go big as they have now collaborated on a new piece standing in the midst of Downtown Los Angeles. Covering an entire wall, the mural is a combination of Flores’ unique design on one side and on the other, Fairey’s black and white iconography. Over the past few months, the two artists have continued their prolific pace, much of which we have captured including Flores’ rendition of Phil Stern’s James Dean photograph and his reworking of a […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey @ ATP Festival (Asbury Park)

During Shepard Fairey’s stay in Asbury Park for his pop-up exhibition with Jonathan Levine Gallery (covered), the head of Obey also took some time to beautify the urban surroundings of the oceanfront city prior to the ATP Festival. Armed with cherry pickers and wall space as far as the eye could see, the posse set up shop for the week in spite of stormy weather to get their mission accomplished. Check out all the action after the jump by our Joe Russo.

Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Revolutions” @ Jonathan Levine (Asbury Park)

AM recently attended the opening of Revolutions: Album Cover Art Of Shepard Fairey at Asbury Park. The pop-up exhibition by Shepard Fairey (featured) presented by Jonathan Levine Gallery coincided with the All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP) music festival and featured a body of work similar to what showed at Robert Berman in Los Angeles earlier this year. The East Coast version brought together the album HPM’s and their larger format counterparts for all the music and Obey fans to enjoy. Of course, Shep upped the ante […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey, D*Face, and Logan Hicks for T&J Art Walk (Oslo) Part II

After mentioning Faile’s (featured) wall for the T&J Art Walk (and the fun they had with a ping pong table) earlier in the month in an Overtime article, we thought it was time for an update. The event in Oslo was put on in  support of the Human Rights Watch (HRW) and to allow memorial murals honoring the victims of the horrific terror attack of July 22. This will all culminate with an art show with proceeds to benefit the HRW (but you can also donate here). You can […]
