Streets: Shepard Fairey (New Mexico)

Shepard Fairey was recently invited to the Santa Fe University of Art and Design to do a lecture as part the school’s Artists for Positive Social Change series. Of course while there, Mr. Obey decided to create a mural for his fans in New Mexico. Considering the venue, Shep decided to get up with a pro-art, anti-war piece. Releases: Shepard Fairey x The Simpsons “Dope” Poster

Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, and Robbie Conal made an appearance and Bart taps into the street art craze with imagery inspired by Homer.  Well, the Dope stencil that Bart was seen putting up all over town is now available as a poster from Shep as an open edition through Urban Outfitters. Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Sound & Vision” @ StolenSpace

Londoners have already seen evidence of Shepard Fairey’s (featured) presence on the streets, but tonight (October 19th), the StolenSpace Gallery will be putting a new body of work from the prominent American street artist on display entitled Sound and Vision. As we mentioned last month, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening a show at the StolenSpace Gallery in London entitled Sound and Vision. Looks like he made an early trek across the pond to work on some large-scale public murals of his distinctive imagery including this new piece on Ebor Street in East London. Coming up in October, Shepard Fairey (featured) returns to the StolenSpace Gallery in London for a solo show entitled Sound and Vision. The name of the exhibition is taken from the song of one of his favorite musicians David Bowie and embodies one of the greatest inspirations for Shep’s art – music. Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Americana” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery

Over the weekend, the debut show at Perry Rubenstein’s newly opened Los Angeles gallery featured new works from Shepard Fairey. Entitled Americana, the exhibition showcased eleven new works, each one inspired by the songs, such as Oh Susannah, This Land Is Your Land and Clementine from Neil Young’s new album Crazy Horse. “Fairey says he listened to the music and lyrics to come up with concepts for visual representations of the songs. Previews: Shepard Fairey – “Americana” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery

This Saturday, Shepard Fairey will present a fresh body of work created in collaboration with Neil Young. The show entitled Americana is Shep’s interpretations of the songs from Young’s recently released album Crazy Horse. This special exhibition will be held at Perry Rubenstein’s newly opened Los Angeles gallery.
