After bringing you a look at SCOPE Basel, we now turn our attention to the VOLTA. Moving back to the center of the city at the venue Markthalle, their 11th year at Basel Week Switzerland sees the art fair continuing to focus on mainly solo exhibitions from artists at their gallery booths like Mark Stone for The Hole Gallery (seen above). With the art world focused in on the festivities in Switzerland, we start our coverage of Art Basel Week with a feature on SCOPE. Celebrating nine years in Basel, the fair returns to its pioneering location at Basel’s New Art District on the Rhine. On May 30th, Museu do Côa in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Portugal, opened 1/81, a group show presenting the newest works of some of Portugal’s contemporary and urban artists. Releases: Takashi Murakami x Vans Collaboration

On June 27th, Takashi Murakami will be releasing a collaboration he has been working on with Vans. Utilizing his iconic imagery, the set will include six pairs of Vans Classic Slip-Ons, four skate decks, three tees, and three pairs of slip-ons for your little art collectors out there. As one of the collateral shows of the Venice Bienalle 2015, Personal Structures / Crossing Borders, organized by the European Cultural Centre, opened at two locations in Venice on the 9th of May. Hosted at Palazzo Bembo and Palazzo Mora, over 100 artworks created by 100 participating artists from around 50 different countries was presented to the general public. Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Printed Matters” @ Library Street Collective

Opening last month and showing through the middle of August is Shepard Fairey’s (featured) solo at the Library Street Collective in Detroit. Entitled Printed Matters, the exhibition featured a diverse collection of the Los Angeles-based artist’s distinctive work across all mediums.
