In collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris is currently presenting the first exhaustive retrospective devoted to Jeff Koons in Europe until the 27th of April. LA Art Show ’15: Recap

Last week, AM attended the LA Art Show to see what the fair had to offer collectors in Los Angeles. Celebrating their 20th year anniversary, the event featured over 120 galleries representing 22 countries including the a special section called Littletopia (like last year) featuring galleries promoting the sub genre of the new contemporary art movement, low brow art, pop surrealism, as well as street & urban art. Previews: Spazuk – “Récidive” @ Galerie C.O.A

On the 26th of January, Galerie C.O.A in Montral will be opening Récidive, a solo show by the “fire painter” Spazuk. The distinctive technique he uses is called fumage, which allows him to use the flame of a candle or torch as a “paintbrush” to create his paintings with trails of soot. He later manipulates these trails by using various needles, razors, and makeshift bird feather pens, which result in incredibly detailed black and white works on canvas, panel or paper. Brendan Monroe Paints Facebook Offices

Like Aakash Nihalani (interviewed) did in 2011 (covered) and how David Choe (featured) famously did (and was rewarded handsomely) in the early days, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) was recently invited in to paint part of the Facebook HQ compound. Working on a large wall, the Bay Area-based artist created a topographical mural with the his signature organic and biological infused imagery. From candlelit backrooms to small forest clearings, Incantation sees Roq la Rue Conjuring up a group show based on ritual and mysticism. Occultism is often seen as heretical to mainstream society, but the beliefs and practices are centuries old and firmly rooted in nature and our surroundings. Along with Nick Farhi’s solo (covered), Neochrome Gallery is currently showing another show, Surface of Venus by Jamie Sneider, her first in Europe. With a MFA in Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts in NY, BFA from New York University, and two well received solo exhibitions stateside, this over-the-pond show is a new landmark for the Boston-born artist.
