Openings: “District La Brea” Group Exhibition @ MK2 Projects

Last weekend, MK2 Projects, the special exhibition space of Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles, hosted a group showing from Shepard Fairey, Deedee Cheriel, Mercedes Helnwein, Mark Whalen / Kill Pixie, Mel Kadel, Travis Millard, Matt Small, Samuel Lowder (FrePrs), Lezley Saar, Aiko Nakagawa, Todd Carpenter and Steven R. Releases: Jeff Soto Prints

Starting soon, Jeff Soto (interviewed) has a series of prints he will be releasing, all through his online store – Potatostamp. The first will be the popular Snow Owl image (from his show in France), a timed release 12″ x 15″ print on wood on sale starting November 16th (*date was wrong originally so changed it) at noon PST for $55 + shipping. Video: Raymond Pettibon x Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Monarchy of Roses” Music Video

Two legends of the Los Angeles music and art scene: the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Raymond Pettibon (who is a musician in his own right and the brother of Greg Ginn – the founder of Black Flag) come together in this music video made on occasion of the band’s new record. Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the video features the artist’s highly recognizable drawings. If you’ve ever wondered how Pettibon’s work would look animated, stop imagining and start watching. Now showing at the Allegra LaViola Gallery on Manhattan’s lower east side is a dynamic group show entitled Die Like You Really Mean It. After almost a year of steadfast anticipation, Tauba Auerbach finally pulled back the curtains and revealed the magic of her newest body of work this weekend at Bergern Kunsthall in Norway. A couple weekends ago in Chelsea, we attended this year’s Editions|Artists’ Book Fair, which brought together contemporary fine art print and art book publishers and dealers from around the world. Next Thursday, November 17th (6-8pm), the Paul Kasmin gallery will be presenting a gold set of Ai Weiwei’s bronze sculptures, Zodiac Heads, to the public. Other larger renditions of the twelve animal heads, each depicting a part of the Chinese zodiac, have already been shown at the Pulitzer Fountain (Central Park) in New York and the LACMA in Los Angeles, but this showing will be accompanied by a book launch. The other night, we attended a great event held at the Wooster St. Social Club for Aidan Has A Posse, a website raising funds for and awareness about Aidan Seeger. Aidan is a young boy who has Adrenoleukodystrophy   (ALD), a rare neurological disorder. But he also has a lot of friends, a posse including the likes of Cope2, Tony Curanaj, Ewok, Todd James, Romon Kimin Yang, Greg Lamarche, Steve Powers and Kostas Seremetis – all of whom donated art works to be auctioned off to […]

Events: James Jarvis Book Release @ The Standard Shop NYC

Tonight, at The Standard Shop, NYC, acclaimed British illustrator James Jarvis will unveil his first new narrative in five years, De Profundis, with a public signing event from 6-8pm. Accompanying the book’s release, The Standard Shop has organized an exhibition of Jarvis’ work – including original works for sale – complete with an original site-specific piece on the Shop’s windows from November 10th through December 8th.
