Openings: TrustoCorp – “Life Cycle” @ Opera Gallery (NYC)

Trading in their guerrilla tactics for gallery motifs, TrustoCorp (featured) took to the posh Opera Gallery over the weekend for their third solo exhibition since inception three years ago. Spawned in the wake of a crashing economic system and a Congress rotten to the core, the increasingly ubiquitous and always creative street art collective stormed the SoHo space, transforming it into equal parts bizarro Chucky Cheese and political strategy room gone awry. Building upon their breakout New York solo exhibition last year, Life Cycle (previewed) […]

Openings: Frank Gonzales – “Fragments of Nature” @ Beals & Abbate

Earlier this month, New York-based painter Frank Gonzales took a trip over to New Mexico for the opening of his solo show at Beals & Abbate. Entitled appropriately Fragments of Nature, the show highlighted new work from the nature-loving artist featuring his mostly bird portraits with his trademark abstract twist. It looks like he also worked in some of the local flora and fauna of Santa Fe into some of his pieces, a location that is a perfect match for Gonzales since the area is known […]

Openings: Josh Keyes – “Migration” @ Jonathan Levine

Tonight, Josh Keyes (interviewed) unveiled his latest body of work at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. As mentioned in our preview, this exhibition entitled Migration, explores the what if scenario of where ecological zones are crunched due to extreme changes in our climates. What type of odd behavior and patterns will emerge in the animal kingdom when food chain and bio-habitats reconfigure? Would pandas and bull sharks coexist peacefully? What about Grizzlies and Dingos? We were also delighted to see many awe inspiring JK favorites make a […]

Releases: KAWS – “Joe Kaws” Vinyl Figure

Since the Dissected Milo set was released back in February, KAWS hasn’t released anything on the vinyl toy front, undoubtedly due to focusing on his fine art and recent solo Hold the Line. That will all change next week with the release of his Peanuts homage to Snoopy, aptly dubbed Joe KAWS. The figure, who’s release was effectively set in stone over a year ago with the release of an OriginalFake x Peanuts Joe KAWS t-shirt collaboration to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Charles Schulz […]

Openings: Takashi Murakami – “Homage to Yves Klein” @ Galerie Perrotin

Last night, Homage to Yves Klein opened at the Galerie Perrotin in Paris. As the title suggests, the newest solo from Takashi Murakami was a tribute to Klein, the late French artist who is considered a leading proponent of Nouveau réalisme and developer of the famous International Klein Blue (IKB). This deep blue color was used liberally by the Japanese in his flower and skull motifs for this show as well as one of the monochromatic works that was offered in this new body of […]
