On display through November 30th at Peter Fetterman Gallery is an exhibition of works, entitled Iconic Photographs, from Steve McCurry, which chronicle the famous American photojournaist’s most important images. Of course, taking center stage is Afghan Girl, his most powerful and widely recognized photograph which was prominently featured on a 1985 cover of National Geographic depicting a young, then unidentified refugee in Pakistan escaping the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Ai Weiwei – W Magazine’s 2011 Art Issue

The recently named (according to ArtReview) most powerful artist in the world, Ai Weiwei, has broken his silence over his “enforced disappearance” with an interview in W Magazine’s upcoming sixth annual art issue. The Chinese artist and dissident also directed the cover shoot by Max Vadukul in a series of shots inspired by his own photography while living in NYC in the 80’s including images from the Tompkins Square riots. Coming up at the end of the week, October 22nd, the Jaski Gallery in Amsterdam will be hosting the opening for Tessar Lo’s latest solo exhibition. Building on the body of work Tessar presented in Canada last April, The Dying Wishes, is a collection of painting and small drawings that further explore what look to be the dream-like landscapes of youth and our imaginary animal companions. The recent opening of a third gallery space in London confirms White Cube ongoing strength, and its presence at the Frieze Art Fair is nothing less than spectacular. A while back, AM attended the opening of the group show Flash curated by Anonymous Gallery. Hosted at Wooster Street Social Club, the exhibition had many notables including as Anthony Lister, Curtis Kulig, Dan Witz, Eric White, Greg Lamarche, Kenji Hirata, Kenzo Minami, James Jean, Logan Hicks, Nick Walker, Ron English, Shelter Serra and Tristan Eaton.
