Releases: Parra x Nike Air Max 1 & Zoom Spiridon Collection

Over the last week or so, Parra started to reveal some new collaborations with Nike including his take on the Zoom Spiridon, & Air Max 1 (including a Friends and Family edition with the lateral swoosh removed and a matching tracksuit). Previews: KAWS:HOLIDAY Project (Seoul)

Continuing to target the Asian market through which he has scored some record results as of late, KAWS will be unveiling a project (with support from LOTTE) soon with a return to Korea (see 2016). Upcoming: Daniel Arsham – “3018” @ Perrotin Gallery (New York)

Although it’s still a couple months in the future, Daniel Arsham has been teasing his upcoming show opening on September 8th at Perrotin’s New York location with photos of a DeLorean reimagined with his “Future Archeology” motif in mind. Entitled 3018, the name of the upcoming exhibition certainly references the NYC-based artist’s longstanding practice of creating objects common in our time in a manner that he envisions will be discovered by archeologists in the future. Upcoming: Hajime Sorayama – “Sorayama Explosion” @ NANZUKA

On July 7th, NANZUKA in Tokyo will be hosting the opening of a new solo show from Hajime Sorayama. Entitled Sorayama Explosion, the exhibition will feature paintings as well as a new human-scale sculpture from the Japanese artist known for his “sexy robot” motif. Also available will be a few held back Sorayama Classic Robot SURF sculptural editions from APPortfolio (seen further below) and a new ceramic sculpture edition from Case Studyo entitled A Touch of Mercury (seen directly below). Openings: JR – “Horizontal” @ Perrotin Gallery (New York)

A few days ago in New York, French artist JR (interviewed) opened a new show entitled Horizontal at Perrotin Gallery. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’18 / Previews: “Vitality and Verve III” @ LBMA

Tomorrow (June 30th), Vitality and Verve III will open to the public (private gala tonight) at the Long Beach Museum of Art, presented in curatorial collaboration with Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Projects and the support of POW! WOW! Long Beach. The third iteration of the group exhibition highlighting artists from the “New Contemporary Art Movement” features an excellent roster including Sergio Garcia and Saber who collaborated on a cool installation featuring Garcia’s sculpture of Saber’s hand in mid spray with the graffiti artist providing his tag. Andeken Gallery in Amsterdam is currently hosting the European debut solo exhibition from Laura Berger titled The Sun Is Between Us. For this showcase, the Chicago-based artist created a series of new acrylics on cradled wood panels along with ceramic sculptures from her Lapis Sculptura series. Using the female figure as the focus subject in her work, Berger creates simple flat imagery using a limited color palette of clay-like hues. Showing: Javier Calleja – “I hope you don’t mind” @ Yusto/Giner Gallery

Earlier this month, Yusto/Giner in Spain opened a solo show from Javier Calleja entitled I hope you don’t mind. Filling the gallery space of his hometown of Malaga, the new body of work features cartoonish portraits of his doe-eyed children mixed in with text like “Hero”, “I Hope You Don’t Mind”, and “Here And Now.” Rounding out the rest of exhibition from the Nara protege is a 3D figure as well as an emphatic “Done” painted on the walls next to one of his works.
