British artist Dan Baldwin just opened a new solo show titled Fragile at Gallery 8 (8 Duke Street, London SW1Y 6BN) in London, exploring the concepts of mortality and beauty. The theme of fragility has long been associated with Baldwin’s work, not only in its commentary upon the temporality of life but also in the delicate materials he uses. Encompassing ceramics, silkscreen prints, resin, acrylics, spray paint and found objects, the artist’s mixed media compositions are crafted with precision, resulting in complex and intricate pieces. AM attended our first opening at Signal Gallery’s new and much larger space for their Mixed Doubles group exhibition last week. John Squire was probably the first artist we ever collected from ‘art prints’ from back in the late 80’s when he produced Pollack-esque cover art for his band The Stone Roses. Dan Baldwin (interviewed) has been keeping busy since AM last caught up with him at his London solo show with Signal Gallery. This Thursday, October 28th, sees the artist open his latest series of works at Ink_d Gallery in Brighton. Our friends at Zero Cool gallery will be opening a new group show entitled “Don’t believe the Type” tonight in London that will feature four large scale collaboration paintings by Hush (interviewed) and Dan Baldwin (interviewed).
