Showing: Dran – “Dessin du Jour/Londres”

Dran opened a new pop-up exhibition in London over the weekend entitled Dessin du Jour. As the title suggests, the body of work is dominated by approximately 120 drawings which the artist has been executing on a daily basis in preparation for the show. The pieces individually distill down the small victories and defeats, dreams and doubts and joys and sorrows of everyday life. We see a man marooned on an island encircled and cut-off by gridlocked traffic which speaks to the isolation of modern urban life, […]

Weeks ahead of the show, his army of followers and collectors were impatiently waiting to see the new works as well as the new print and accompanying book. Known for his […]

Viewpoints / Recap: Dran – ‘Public Execution’ pop up show in Soho, London (Part II)

AM recently covered the opening and first week of the last show by Dran, which was hosted by Pictures On Walls and closed on Saturday 21 February. The uniqueness of Public Execution is that it was produced by the artist — bit by bit and in public view — over the course of its duration. A white space filled with spraypainted images of blank canvases on Day 1 evolved into a picture-rich multicoloured venue on Day 17, the grand finale. Some visitors have referred to […]

Viewpoints / Openings: Dran — ‘Public Execution’ pop-up show in Soho, London

It’s been some time since Pictures On Walls has organised an art exhibition. The previous one was in December 2013 with the Shok-1 solo show, X-Rainbow. Last year, POW gave up its premises on Commercial Street in East London. With a permanent show space no longer retained, the number of print releases in 2014 restricted to a small handful (by Paul Insect, Maya Hayuk and Invader), and plenty of competitors arriving on the street art scene eager to fill the void, many wondered what the […]

Streets: World Roundup (Apr 14 – Apr 27)

This week’s edition of Streets: World Roundup brings us new street and public artworks from all over the globe. From a miniature piece (pictured) by Pablo Delgado (photo  by Marcus Peel), a London-based Mexican street artist who has been creating some new small works around British capital as an introduction for his upcoming solo show, to an enormous giant piece by Ella & Pitr in Santiago, Chile. From the deserts of West Australia, all the way to The Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, and couple of cities around […]

The show will include a display of works in the two spaces of the gallery, as well as two large public murals that can be seen in the surrounding area. The idea behind the exhibition and its title is to pay respect to “the most passionate part of most urban contemporary artists today” – THE WALL. […]

Streets: Da Mental Vaporz (Melbourne)

We’ve been following the Da Mental Vaporz crew in Australia as they are currently showing at Rtist Gallery. Combining a patchwork of their different styles, the DMV crew consisting of Bom-K, Blo, Brusk, Dran, Gris1, ISO, Jaw, Kan, and Sowat just completed an imaginary bestiary on a four-storey building in the heart of Chinatown, making it the largest graffiti mural of Melbourne. More exclusive photos after the jump…

Streets: World Roundup Oct 31- Nov 6

This week’s roundup starts with the always entertaining David Choe (featured). He claims to have recently found the abandoned vacation home of the infamous Pablo Escobar in Columbia. What ensues is of course some NSFW shenanigans that for those interested you can see here. Other walls that caught out attention include Dran (France), Miss Bugs (London), ROA (Australia), Stinkfish (Guatemala), Sam3 (Portugal), Aryz (Spain), INSA (London), and Mobstr. Streets: Da Mental Vaporz (France)

We had only caught up with French graffiti crew Da Mental Vaporz in Copenhagen at the end of August at the Galore Festival and now they are already onto their next project. After returning to their home country, the members traveled to Brest to do their part for the Crimes of Minds festival with one of the best collaborative murals we have seen in a while. Each artist was able to maintain their distinctive style yet the whole was greater than the sum of the […]
