Continuing a project that has toured Asia starting last year in Korea (covered) which moved on to Taiwan (covered) earlier this year, KAWS will unveiling another large scale inflatable version of his Companion figure in Hong Kong on March 22nd. A couple weeks ago, we shared a mural by Shepard Fairey (interviewed) that he recently completed for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii. Upcoming: Josie Morway – “The Remediators” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On April 6th, Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting new works from Josie Morway including ten substantial pieces (ranging from 16″ x 20″ to 36″ x 48″). Entitled The Remediators, the Boston-based artist’s new surreal wildlife paintings were inspired the idea of bioremediation – in which plants, animals or microorganisms break down contamination in soil or water. GYATEI², a new solo show from Takashi Murakami, opened last month at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills. The exhibition title comes from the Buddhist Hannya Shingyo (Heart Sutra), an incantation often chanted by Zen groups before or after a meditation and translates roughly to “gone, gone, gone beyond, gone completely beyond, enlightenment, svāhā.” Eastern religions are only one of the many inspirations that the Japanese artist draws on, as can be evidenced by what has been included in this diverse body of work – examples include his signature DOB […]

POW WOW ’19 / Streets: Shepard Fairey

Last month in Honolulu, Shepard Fairey (interviewed) created a mural for this year’s edition of POW! WOW! Hawaii. Attending the street art festival for the first time, the American artist decided to address  global warming and preserving the environment for future generations with his new piece entitled Golden Future? Working through his birthday, the wall was completed with the help of his mural crew and featured his distinctive palette and imagery.
