Streets / Recap: 352walls (Gainesville)

Back in November of 2015, the city of Gainesville coordinated the beginning of 352walls (The Gainesville Urban Art Initiative project). Curated by Iryna Kanishcheva, the first edition of the event was recently completed while producing 11 murals by internationally recognized artists, plus 10 murals by local artists and a bunch of electrical boxes interventions throughout the Floridian city’s downtown. Tomorrow (February 7th) will mark the third time Thinkspace has curated a show in association with POW! WOW! Hawaii at the Honolulu Museum of Art School (see 2015 & 2014). The event will continue their push to further the art of what they call the “New Contemporary Movement” and will include an installation from Aaron Li-Hill. It’s been quite a while since our last Streets: World Roundup feature, so here are some public works that you may have missed in the last several months. Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, the exhibition featured an impressive and diverse roster or artists, each contributing a 12 x 12″ piece. Leading things off on this edition of our Streets: World Roundup is this new mural from Vhils (via Hookedblog) for the Phytology Project. The wall is situated on a side street just off Bethnal Green Road (the station end) in the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve and is part of a series of year-long artist commissions taking place in the reserve.
