Upcoming: Tomoo Gokita – “Bésame Mucho” @ Honor Fraser

This Saturday night (April 11th) at Honor Fraser in Los Angeles, Tomoo Gokita will be unveiling a new solo show entitled Bésame Mucho. The exhibition appears to build on the monochromatic series seen in New York (covered) earlier this year composed of black and white gouache canvases featuring his distinct form of obscured portraiture. Not only will there be individual focused paintings, but also large scale group compositions (like the one seen above) from the Tokyo-based artist. Discuss Tomoo Gokita here.

After making his mark in Hawaii for POW! WOW!, Ernest Zacharevic traveled across the Pacific to spend some time in Los Angeles. While there, he worked on a mural in Culver City ( 3201 La Cienega Ave) on a building along with Nosego and Hueman, which was organized by Branded Arts. Featured a tattered Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs living out of a shopping cart, the new piece features the Lithuanian artist’s dry wit as well as his signature incorporation of found three-dimensional elements to his work. Kamea Hadar x Tristan Eaton – “Pele, Maila, Hina” Mural

Last month, two veterans of POW! WOW! Hawaii joined forces to collaborate on an indoor installation for Olukai Shoes’ #anywherealoha campaign. Kamea Hadar traveled from the islands to Tristan Eaton’s homebase, Los Angeles, to join him in painting the mural entitled Pele, Maila, Hina. Steeped with symbolism from Hawaii, the piece blended Hadar’s portraiture with Eaton’s signatures patchwork style. Previews: Erik Jones – “Color|Full” @ Thinkspace

On March 28th, Thinkspace will be hosting a new solo from painter Erik Jones entitled Color | Full. As evidenced by his previous works, the NYC-based artist likes to combine his portraiture with graphic patterning, color blocking, and linear elements but this latest showing will take things a bit further. Along with some paintings created in the classic Jones style, there are also more exploratory pieces where he has delineated different planes in his imagery by bringing a sculptural aspect or dimensionality to his work.

Howard Griffin Gallery Los Angeles opened a solo by Pablo Delgado on March 7th entitled On Their Level. After showing last year at their London gallery (covered), the Mexican artist took a different approach to presenting his peculiar work this time. By changing the point of view and challenging the viewer’s perspective, the exhibition “explores multiple perceptions of society, equality, consumerism and temporality.“ Delgado’s street work usually consists of small installations within existing environments, which strongly affects viewing experience. The offices of Rock Paper Scissors, a post production company located on the Westside recently had the locally-based RISK work on two walls for them.
