On May 17th, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angelels will be presenting a new body of work from Greg Simkins (featured). Also known as Craola to his fans, the locally-based artist will be returning to the showspace (see 2012 & 2013) with a fresh batch of paintings featuring his surreal cast of animal characters. We last caught up with Mel Kadel back in 2012 when she presented a solo show at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. Over the weekend, AM stopped by Blum & Poe in Culver City to check out the new expansive exhibition from Yoshitomo Nara. The solo is the Japanese artist’s seventh with the gallery and includes a selection of new paintings, a series of large-scale bronze sculptures, and a survey in the upstairs space of drawings made over the last thirty years displayed in a chronological order. Returning to the site of his 2010 Los Angeles solo (covered), Cleon Peterson brought his hard-hitting imagery for his currently showing exhibition at New Image Art entitled End of Days. The collection of paintings feature a limited palette of black & white or black & red, making the brutal details all the more evident when rendered in a uniform color scheme.
