Feinkunst Krueger Gallery in Hamburg, Germany, is opening their 8th edition of the annual Don’t Wake Daddy group show on the 1st of December. Including the works of 24 international artists, this exhibition is one notable events for Lowbrow Art in Germany. PressurePrinting.com recently released a postcard portfolio from Dutch artist and illustrator, Femke Heimstra, just on time for her new website launch. Famous for her recognizable “anthropomorphic animals that roam in a dark, fairytale like world, together with all sorts of characters”, she often paints with acrylics on old surfaces like antique panels or books. There is an old saying that the window to your soul is through the eyes. Marco Mazonni has capatilized on this, by excluding them from his brilliant color pencil drawings. The exclusion mystifies and intrigues, while the surrounding plants, flowers, and familiar animals try to ease our reactions. Last month, AM stopped by the currently running show from Adam Wallacavage (interviewed) at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. Magic Mountain features the Philadelphia-based artist’s surreal mixed media sculptures and functional art objects as well as some pieces inspired and cast from vintage toys in his personal collection. Over the weekend, fans in Los Angeles were once again able to enjoy a new body of work from Travis Louie (interviewed) at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery. It’s been couple years since his last showing at the space (see 2011), but the paintings and drawings for Strange Discoveries were well worth the wait.
