Openings: Blaine Fontana – “The Golden Record” @ Lebasse Projects

In what sounds like an eternity in the fast-moving and evolving world of contemporary art, Blaine Fontana has just opened his first gallery exhibition in 3 years. He returns with a tightly constructed, cohesive body of work with a unified theme. The solo exhibition at LeBasse Projects in Culver City features 13 paintings, using acrylic and almost entirely on board, all intricately and exquisitely rendered by the Otis graduate. Openings – New Directions @ White Walls

Opening alongside “Meticulous Engagements” at the Shooting Gallery was White Walls’ “New Directions” a group show consisting of five talents that the gallery has been building this past year. Featuring Mark Warren Jacques (pictured above), Henry Gunderson (interviewed), Akira Beard, Robert Burden, and Cheryl Molnar. New Directions is a look at several distinctly different and unique styles each exploring their own directions. Full photo set after the jump.

The twins from Sao Paulo have opened the next installment of their famed “Verti” exhibition at the CCBB Brasilia. Opening alongside Aaron Nagel’s Marks at the Shooting Gallery was Kevin Cyr and Jessica Hess‘ “Temporal Surfaces” at the adjoining White Walls gallery. Cleverly curated by Lainya Maganya, “Temporal Surfaces” brings together two documentarists of the bleak urban and industrial landscape. Jessica Hess’ calming oil-based renditions of derelict billboards and abandoned railway cars accurately captures the temporal and transitional movement of light across these surfaces while invigorating life and beauty into otherwise drab and dreary locales. On Saturday night, Deitch Projects hosted the opening for the ever talented contemporary artist: Rosson Crow. Her latest show “Bowery Boys” featured her talented nostalgic snapshots of the streets of lower Manhattan.
