Following a number of screenings across the US this year, Wall Writers has been released on iTunes. The meticulously researched documentary chronicles the birth of graffiti and explains how working class kids wrote their names as an assertion of their existence and their personal identity, distinct from the political and gang graffiti which preceded the movement. 1xRun recently teamed up with Roger Gastman to create an extensive monograph for one of the most legendary LA writers and graffiti icon RISK (interviewed). The Detroit-based publisher released these 350 page hardcover books on July 17th, coming either with a limited edition print or original artwork. The book itself covers the story of Risk, from the very early 80s to the present day. The untimely recent passing of Justin Van Hoy has had an huge impact on the artistic community he was associated with. The Los Angeles based gallerist, artist and designer sadly lost his long battle with cancer in November shortly after his book Milk and Honey: Contemporary Art in California was published. Close friends Alex Lukas and Bill McRight have organised a tribute to Justin in the form of Walking with The Dutch Giant – A Benefit for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Honoring Justin Van Hoy at Philadelphia’s Space 1026. NASA recently released a video they call Perpetual Ocean which tracks all the ocean currents from around the world.
