Showing: Mario Wagner – “A Glow That Transfers Creativity” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last week, the Hashimoto Contemporary welcomed Bay Area artist Mario Wagner (featured) into their space for a showing entitled A Glow That Transfers Creativity. The solo exhibition consisted of paintings, collage-based installation, and animations displayed on old tube televisions. Previews: “A Major Minority” @1:AM Gallery

Curated by Graffuturism founder and artist Poesia (interviewed), A Major Minority gathers A4 sized works from over 100 artists in 18 countries from what he likes to call “Othercontemporay Urban Art.” He states “because Urban Art has been misunderstood and ignored by institutions and their current version of art history, it was necessary to attempt to initiate and standardize a unique term that would augment and define this outsider art form.” Opening on March 14th at 1:AM Gallery  in San Franscico, the show aims to illustrate the large scope of this art […]

Streets: Os Gemeos (San Francisco)

Thanks to The Lugagge Store Gallery in San Francisco, the other day we finally got a chance to check out up close and snap some exclusive shots of the Os Gemeos mural painted on top of their building at 1007 Market Street back in Sept 2013. This magnificent piece was commissioned by gallery and funded by the Graue Family Fund for Public Art, and was painted over a previous mural the Sao Paulo-based artists painted on the same spot back in 2003 – celebrating 10 years since […]

The show titled I Was Just Thinking, opened on January 11th, and will be on view until 1st of February. For this exhibition, Marie used the majority of the gallery space to create an installation which includes both wall murals and clusters of original works. Of course, the imagery presented featured his signature dissections, anatomical details, and interactive qualities. Discuss ROA here.

Interviews: Poesia / Graffuturism – “L’Avenir” Group Exhibition

If you follow the Graffuturism blog you’re probably aware of its writer and curator – Poesia. He is one of the pioneers of abstract graffiti and a member of the Transcend collective who helped popularise this particular form of graffiti, pushing new styles into the public eye as the movement continues to gather momentum and break boundaries. This weekend on 14th December, White Walls Gallery in SF plays host to L’Avenir, a group exhibition that acts as an international survey of the Graffuturism movement and features Augustine […]

Openings: Word to Mother – “California Coming Home” @ White Walls

A couple weeks ago, Word to Mother (interviewed) returned to San Francisco’s White Walls (see 2012) for a new solo show. Entitled California Coming Home, the London-based artist’s fresh selection of paintings incorporated Cali imagery around his signature character based on his own persona. Referring nostalgically to times past when he visited the Golden State in his childhood, the pieces express these feelings in a dream-like loose composition. He explains – “When I first visited California it was a time in my life when things were much more simple, […]
