Showing: Jud Bergeron – ‘Becoming’ @ Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art

Jud Bergeron’s current exhibition Becoming carries its special little story on how it came to be. Funded by a recent kickstarter campaign to facilitate the casting of pieces such as Quack-Quack – the large scale bronze and mixed media sculpture of an atom bomb explosion of rubber duckies emanating from a pin-striped child’s pedal car, Bergeron used the crowd-funding route to deal with the huge upfront costs of mounting such an ambitious sculptural exhibition. The title of the show alludes to Bergeron’s experiences with his recent transition into […]

Previews: Casey Gray – ‘Tropic’ @ White Walls

Bay Area artist Casey Gray is set to open his third solo exhibition with SF gallery White Walls on October 12th. The show is entitled Tropic, and  looks to be packed with imagery that conjures up the scent of pina coladas and coconut oil. We’ve watched Casey’s work develop over the last few years and these boldly composed still life stencils look to be executed with a new level of mastery of his chosen technique. Definitely one to catch if you are in the Bay Area.

Openings: Ludo – “Destructionis Hostis Vespa” @ White Walls

Last weekend, White Walls in San Francisco hosted the opening for Ludo’s (interviewed) new solo show. Entitled Destructionis Hostis Vespa, the exhibition is named for a creature from the Parisian street artist’s Nature’s Revenge series or works – a cross between a combat airplane and a wasp. Displayed in sculptural form as well as with paintings from multiple angles, blue prints if you will, the entire show was able to present a cohesive feel to it and also gave striking examples of Ludo’s work. Openings: Augustine Kofie – “Structurally Sound” @ White Walls

Over the weekend, the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco presented new urban abstractions from Augustine Kofie. Entitled Structurally Sound, the new works continued the Los Angeles-based artist’s post graffiti aesthetic with thoughts of “sound structures and systems of reliability” when creating the paintings. Rounding things out was an installation that highlighted some of the sketches and in-progress ideas that lead up to the exhibition. Photo credit: Joe Russo for Arrested Motion. Showing: Dabs Myla – “San Francisco is for Lovers” @ White Walls

Australian artist duo Dabs Myla, opened their latest solo show on the 17th of August at White Walls Gallery in SF (previewed). With the concept being more of “an intimate installation” than just a show, the artists turned part of a gallery into an immersive experience. Strict about the color palette they were using – all shades of pink are red dominated the space, with sexy imagery painted on every surface – making the entire space has a feel of a Japanese love hotel room. With paintings displayed on top […]
