With the help of tastemaker Swizz Beatz, Bally recently launched a new capsule collection with artwork from Shok-1. Known for his unique x-ray aerosol technique, the British artist recently traveled to Japan and Hong Kong (seen above) to promote the release of a selection of sweatshirts, joggers, totes, fanny packs, sneakers, and hats for both men and women. After showing you some in-progress shots and some sneak peeks of the massive amount of work in progress on the streets of Kakaako, we now have a recap of many of the walls and public interventions that were created for POW! WOW! Hawaii. This year’s event had locations that were more compact and centrally located, leading to a more easily navigated set of murals. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17 / Showing: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Showing in associated POW! WOW! Hawaii through the tomorrow at the Honolulu Museum of Art School is the 4th annual Exploring The New Contemporary Movement group exhibition (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014) curated by Thinkspace. Artists were asked to contribute 12 x 12″ pieces leading to a visually conforming display of works. Rounding things out was a showcase for Shok-1 (seen below) and a Homer Simpson x Banksy parody installation by Oak Oak (seen above). This Sunday, POW! WOW! Hawaii (more info here) kicks off with a re-occurring show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014). As in the past, the format is 12 x 12″ works, leading to a visually congruent display of artworks, some of which were inspired by island life. Oak Oak will also be presenting an installation as part of the exhibition and Shok-1 will be the featured artist. Streets: SHOK-1 (Paris)

Shok-1 was recently invited to Paris by his artist friend Franck Duvall. During his visit, the pioneer of aerosol X-ray art painted a new mural titled Dark Magic. The image depicts hands forming a shadow puppet bunny, with the shadow behind being an anatomically correct X-ray of a rabbit. The clever idea is completed by mixing two different techniques which accent his unique style. Leading off the return of our Streets: World Roundup feature this week is a tribute from Jimmy C of rock icon David Bowie in the Brixton neighborhood where he was born. Londoners used the mural (photo: Tim Ireland/AP) as a makeshift shrine as visitors left gifts, flowers, and mementos at the feet of the image of Bowie as his one of his alter egos, Aladdin Sane.
