Openings: Emma Tooth – ‘Concilium Plebis’ @ Lazarides Outsiders Gallery

Hopefully you caught our interview with Emma Tooth recently just ahead of her London solo opening at the Lazarides Outsiders Gallery, if not you can check it out here. AM went along to the opening of Concilium Plebis to check out the work for ourselves down in the dungeon. We’ve already seen some of the series of paintings before at her recent exhibition at Derby Museum earlier this year, and also when we visited Emma in her studio, but there was a healthy mixture of […]

Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Caped Creatures” @ Circleculture Gallery

Currently showing at  Circleculture Gallery in Berlin, Kelsey Brookes’ new body of work features his signature colorful eruptions of abstract shapes. When examined closer, the raw forms coalesce into the various “Caped Creatures” as well as a place of refuge in what appears to be a Noah’s Ark painting. Check out more photos of the San Diego-based artist’s work via Art School Vets after the jump…

Openings: Kid Acne – ‘When the Smoke Clears’ @ Concrete Hermit

South Yorkshire’s finest – Kid Acne – opened his latest solo show in London last week at Concrete Hermit. ‘When the Smoke Clears’ brings a fine selection of the varied aspects of this artist’s oeuvre together in one space. The installation begins with the hundreds of one-line-drawings of Kid Acne’s signature house emblem in white paint marker pen on the window to the gallery and store. Step inside and the floor is spray-painted in a vivid Day-Glo pink with a black sinuous pattern running throughout […]

Coming up in early December, Travis Louie (featured) will be starting off your holiday season with a solo show at Gallery 1988 (Melrose). Notice that we say Melrose and not Los Angeles because the gallery will be opening up a second space in Venice very shortly and will be closing their branch in San Francisco. We are looking forward to seeing Travis’ new body of work and from the octopus tentacles we see peeking out, he might be bringing something a little different. Discuss this […]

Unfortunately, for the vast majority of the Josh Keyes fans who don’t live in Colorado (like us), seeing the new body of work entitled “Collision” in person will not be possible (unless you bought one). However, we are lucky that there are some exhibition photos of the beautiful pieces in situ at the David B. Smith Gallery through December 11th. The ten paintings in this show were conceived and based on a complex 16th century mythology (explained in detail in our recent interview with Josh) […]
