Events: Benefit for the People of Haiti @ Sucré, Brooklyn

This Saturday night, David Ellis, José Parlá and other members of The Barnstormers are participating in a benefit to aid the relief effort in Haiti. So head out to Sucré in Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy, check out some amazing art and music, and support a good cause.

AM visited the Raandesk Gallery for the opening of a great show featuring two talented emerging artists, Kevin Cyr and Jason Bryant (previewed). Until recently, both worked as studio assistants for art star Kehinde Wiley, so it’s no surprise that they each have serious technical painting chops. Cyr, just selected as one of 10 winners of the 2010 West Prize, takes damaged and vandalized trucks and vans from the streets of NYC and depicts them realistically on a solid field of color – the isolation […]

It’s always interesting to see how street artists adapt their art to fit into a gallery setting, especially when they are so non-conventional (even for street art) like Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani. Openings: Glenn Barr / THH70 / Joey Seeman @ The 4th Wall Gallery

Glenn Barr’s show at The 4th Wall Gallery (previewed) opened last weekend in Dallas with a fantastic new body of work. Sprinkled among paintings of his signature vixens were serpent women, bird-girls and other hybrid creatures. To round out the show, he also had drawings, prints, and his “Happiness” bronze on display. Also exhibiting along with Barr were THH70 & Joey Seeman. Brooklyn-based artist Brian Alfred opened his latest show “It’s Already the End of the World” last Friday at New York’s Haunch of Venison. Camille Rose Garcia The best show no one is talking about right now is the “Who Killed The Music” Grammy group show coming up next week.
