On March 18th, Tomoo Gokita will be back at Tokyo’s Taka Ishii Gallery for his third solo that will include 15 new paintings. On March 3rd, Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Motoazabu, Tokyo, opened a debut Japan solo exhibition by American artist Austin Lee. Serious Works is sort of a parody title for a show that consists of paintings and sculptures done in Lee’s colorful, naive style. For this showcase, the NYC-based artist created an extensive installation within the gallery space. Streets: Nychos (Melbourne)

Recently in Melbourne, Nychos got up big with a new mural on Easey Street in Collingwood entitled Anatomy of a Kangaroo and painted in his signature dissected style. Making good use of his time, the Austrian artist will also be opening a show on March 10th at Juddy Roller entitled Monochrome Organism as well as unveiling a sculpture project, The Dissection of Sigmund Freud. Hendrik Beikirch will be opening solo show Treasures on the 18th of March at Galerie Droste Wuppertal in Wuppertal, Germany. The new works in the exhibition are the result of his encounters with locals in the remote vastness of Siberia. As we previously mentioned, Stavanger’s legendary street art festival, Nuart Festival recently joined forces with Aberdeen Inspired and the Aberdeen City Council to organize the first edition of the festival outside of Norway. Previews: Atsuko Goto – “The Silence of Idols” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On March 4th, Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting a solo show from Atsuko Goto in their project room. Entitled The Silence of Idols, the works from the Japanese artist features faces cloaked in flora & fauna and inspired by the Shinto belief that “nature is animated by divinity and sacred spirits harbored in every living and inanimate thing.” The haunting images are creating with a unique selection of diluted pigments made from lapis lazuli, ink, and gum arabic applied to cotton. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17: James Jean

Amidst all of the street art during this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii, one of the more unique elements of the event that could be observed were the portrait sessions with James Jean (interviewed). Featuring a diverse selection of subjects, the six chosen ones sat for a few hours with the gifted artist as he masterfully captured their visages in a series of loose yet detailed paintings.
