New Banksy @ NNLS Charity Auction

Banksy is at it again. This time, he’s created a new piece to be auctioned off for another charity event. The NNLS auction is actually an “undies” auction where celebrities literally donate their “bottoms” to raise money for the charity at hand. Sir Banksy managed to find another creative way to donate undies to the cause without revealing his waist size by remixing his “Very Little Helps” image that he revealed last year at POW’s Open Day (covered).  He used a stencil of “Union Jack” […]

Os Gemeos “Vertigo” @ CCBB: Rio De Janerio

Just when “Carnival” ends in Rio de Janerio, latin street legends Os Gemeos come along to keep Brazil pumping. The twins from Sao Paulo brings their visual parade to the CCBB of Rio de Janerio (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil). This show opens today and runs until May 24th.  Known for their yellow skinned characters rocking colorful festive garbs, these two brothers have been creating awesome murals and fresh installations all over the world, both inside and out. From the looks of things, this show is vintage […]

Shepard Fairey hits up Austin for SXSW Festival

Shepard Fairey did some urban “spring cleaning” in Austin this past weekend in time for the SXSW Festival. Visiting the Lone Star state with buckets of wheat paste and some good old fashion Obey elbow grease, Shepard hit up many prominent spots including Lance Armstrong’s Bike Shop: Mellow Johnny’s, Red 7, Emos, Home Slice, and many more. We have some awesome in-progress pics of gorgeous murals being put up by the man himself. Shepard Fairey’s 2009 “Hat Trick” list: January – Washington DC: Inauguration & Manifest […]

Openings: Word to Mother – “Lost for Words” @ StolenSpace

Last night saw the opening of Word to Mother’s third exhibition, “Lost for Words,” (teased) at StolenSpace Gallery in London.  After the success of his two previous shows, Word to Mother took control of the larger Drayton Walk gallery and filled it with an array of new work and found objects including a stranded landlocked boat mysteriously filled with vintage magazines, violin cases, paintings and other ephemera.  Most work was on salvaged wood or metal and featured classic Word to Mother characters as well as […]

Creative Process: Sam Flores

Sam Flores’ show “Ego, Addiction and other Bedtime Stories” is set to open at Subliminal Projects on May 2nd. We know many of you are looking forward to attending the opening but here is a little taste of what to expect. Flores sent us a description of some of his creative process to share with our readers: “This painting was done in steps. First the sky – a layer of clouds with acrylic, then colored and blended with a misting of spray paint. I like […]

Google Maps United Kingdom “Street Art” View

One of the most important elements of a strong street art piece is proper placement, which dictates how the work engages viewers through its interaction with the space it inhabits. This context is usually lost when viewing street art online as most photographers are more focused on filling the frame with the work itself. Google Maps changes this, having just added street view imagery throughout the United Kingdom. Street art fans have already been scouring the city, identifying the locations of pieces from Banksy, Blu, […]

Ron English x Bigfoot x Jason Maloney Mural in Jersey City

Yesterday afternoon, one of our favorite contemporary pop artists, Ron English, along with west coast artists Bigfoot and Jason Maloney, injected a little extra life into downtown Jersey City. They blessed Hudson County Art Supply’s exterior wall in Jersey City, NJ with a huge, colorful, and collaborative mural.   It was a gorgeous day for painting. Even Jersey City Mayor, Jeremiah Healey showed up unexpectedly to show his appreciation and support for the project. Everyone was in good spirits and there were aerosol cans everywhere. […]

Releases: Faile Relaunches Website with Originals & Prints

One would think that the Faile collective would take a little time off after their bangin’ “Lost in Glimmering Shadows” show last year in the UK (covered), but 2009 is no off-year for them. First, they went on a “Supreme: Urban Beautification” campaign on the streets of Manhattan (reported), and now they have relaunched their website: Faile.net with some fresh designs and some even fresher original works & prints which will be sold exclusively through their online shop. To make things as fair as possible for […]

Armory Focus: Bast Studio Visit by New Image Art

The thing about “Art Show” week (Armory, Art Basel, Art LA) is not only exposure to all the great art you can handle, but you also realize how small the art community is. Seeing big-named artists walking down the aisle and celebrities moving from booth to booth is not an uncommon occurrence. At the Armory Art Fair, we ran into Marsea Goldberg of LA’s New Image Art. Marsea told AM that she was in town not only to check out Armory Week, but also to “catch up” […]
