Openings: Casey Gray – “Double Knotted” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Double Knotted, Casey Gray’s first solo show with Hashimoto Contemporary opened in San Francisco. The new body of work from the locally-based artist continues his explorations of still life with his unique technique utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking (check out the video below). Gray’s carefully curated selection of objects are arranged into vibrant compositions, a masterful example being the large 8 x 6 foot showstopper piece. On April 1st, Hashimoto Contemporary will present a new body or work from Casey Gray in their San Francisco space. Entitled Double Knotted, this will the first solo at the gallery by the locally-based artist featuring his special form of still life utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking techniques. Streets: Hula – “Maka’u” (Hawaii)

Continuing his series of works in hard to reach locations, Hula recently painted a mural on the edge of a waterfall entitled Maka’u. Dealing with issues of fear, as suggested by the title, on multiple levels, the piece saw the Oahu-raised artist otherwise known as Sean Yoro suspend himself on the edge of a waterway on surfboard as he took risks to paint an image of a person hanging on by a rope. Installation: Banksy’s – “Walled Off Hotel” Bethlehem (Update)

One week since Banksy’s latest & arguably one of his strongest stunts to date was revealed to the public, we’ve received the first official photographs of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem (covered). With local visitors enjoying the quiet space in an otherwise loud and turbulent area, these images give us an even closer look at the hotel premises, including the artworks which the infamous artist created & installed in the former pottery workshop building. Nicola Verlato x Gatorade Messi Painting

Nicola Verlato (featured) recently reminded his fans of a commercial project he worked on a year ago centered on the incomparable Lionel Messi. The painting for Gatorade’s Don’t Go Down campaign features the superhero-like Argentine soccer player breaking free from a pack of defenders. The Italian artist’s paintings oftentimes features action shots of bodies suspended in moments of time so this seemed to be a perfect pairing of concept and artist. Projects: Escif – “Breath” (Italy)

Spanish artist Escif recently teamed up with Incipit Art to create a unique environmental project to reforest Mount Olivella – BREATH. The idea is to share a huge global consciousness message with the world, written with 5,000 new trees that will be planted on Mount Olivella, rising above the Gulf of Sapri, in Southern Italy. On February 9th, Joshua Liner Gallery will present fresh work from Evan Hecox collectively entitled The Long Way. Guido Van Helten recently spent some time in Spain where he worked on his largest indoor project to date. Tomorrow, January 29th (1-4pm), at the New York Public Library, Visionaire will unveiling its latest virtual reality experience featuring the work of KAWS.
