Streets: Sensemurs Project (Valencia, Spain)

Recently in the La Punta area just outside of Valencia, Spain, a group of street artists got together to help the local population protest the actions of the port authority and the local government have taken since 2001. Because of their focus on urban development, locales were forced to move into social housing only 100’s of meters from their old homes and gardens. You can read more about their plight on here & here. “Different environmental and social NGOs joining forces to preserve the culture, […]

Streets: Blu – “La Cuccagna” // Draw The Line Festival (Italy)

Last month in Italy, street art savant Blu made one of his increasingly rare appearances and painted an impressive new mural for the Draw The Line Festival. Entitled La Cuccagna, the mural is his second for the event in Campobasso (see 2011) which again features the Italian artist’s typical biting political commentary made painfully clear with his straight to the point imagery. The piece depicts metaphorically in a genius way how the “elites” of society live off the poor and how they pollute the environment through the […]

Streets: Blu (Porto Torres, Sardinia)

Several weeks ago, Blu was invited to Porto Torres, Sardinia, by the C.S.O.A. Pangea Posthudorra collective. During his visit, the Italian artist painted another impressive piece in the Villaggio Satellite residential part of town. The finished mural depicts a large head whose face is formed with a human puzzle, sending a message of unity. Done using a signature illustrative style with a lot of small detail that creates the story, the piece is painted on a colorful gradient background which accents the main image. The idea of the organizers and the artist […]

Streets: Blu (Ljubljana)

Italian artist and activist Blu visited Slovenia last month in order to support the efforts of the local Rog Factory (Tovarna Rog) squat in their fight against the municipality of Ljubljana. During his stay, the street artist painted a strong piece depicting a gun created out of different tools, instruments and equipment used by the squatters, symbolizing their strength in their fight against the capital. This old bicycle factory has been abandoned since the downfall of Yugoslavia until 2006. For the last decade, it served as […]

Streets: Blu Buffing His Own Murals In Bologna

After buffing his murals in Berlin back in December 2015, protesting against gentrification of the area, Blu just started erasing all of his murals in Bologna. Backed up by his friends from the XM24 and Crash collectives, many murals were destroyed over night and more are being deleted today. The reason for such drastic action is an upcoming show Street Art: Banksy & Co. – L’Arte allo Stato Urbano, opening on the 18th of March in his hometown. Promoted by the most important bank foundation in town […]

Streets: Blu (Naples)

Blu recently spent several day in Naples, working on a new mural for the local Je So Pazzo organization that is revitalizing a former abandoned mental hospital. As per usual with the Italian artist, the mural was unannounced and done quietly with the result once again breathtaking. Done without any cherry pickers or scaffolds, with only ropes to hang on the wall, one street art’s most respected names created a Green Giant. Utilizing the building as a 3D canvas, the Italian artist painted a large […]

One of these is certainly the Italian legend Blu who just revealed his his newest mural painted in Rome the other day. After taking a break for a few months due to injury, the Bologna-based street artist recently finished painting a new wall on a six story building in the Italian capital. With the […]

Streets: World Roundup (May 1 – May 20)

It’s been few months without our Streets World Roundup feature, but it seems like the season for street art festival has arrived, so the only way to cover some of it is to do a group report on some of the most important murals worldwide. Tahiti once again hosted the ONO’U festival and this year’s lineup included such names as DALeast, Faith47, Seth Globepainter (who teamed up with local artist HTJ), ROA, Dabs Myla, and Pose. The south hemisphere street art scene was active once again in Dunedin […]

Streets: Blu (Mexico City)

While much of street art these days is primarily decorative and created with a purpose of promoting an event, art show, or commercial endeavor, there are still artists out there that are using the streets as a powerful medium for sharing information and making statements. One of those artist is Blu, who is currently traveling around the America’s and creating engaged works. After recently visiting Bolivia (covered), he just finished another strong and meaningful piece in Mexico City, where he was invited by Fifty24Mx for their ManifestoMx project. The […]

Streets: Blu (Bolivia)

It looks like Italian street savant Blu has began his swing through the Americas with a mural in Bolivia. The quickly painted wall again provides biting social commentary on the value of people in the country when weighed against the value placed on money. Next up for Blu will be work for the MANIFESTO street initiative in Mexico. Discuss Blu here.
