Not long after the duo’s US debut show (covered), Interesni Kazki’s Waone flew to Varkala, India, where he painted his first black and white mural. The Ukrainian artist, known for his surreal public works, colorful paintings, and elaborate drawings, was able to fulfill his goal of creating a B&W mural, resulting in this striking wall being painted on a local rooftop with the help of his family and friends. Ukrainian artists Waone & AEC from Interesni Kazki (interviewed) recently spent a few weeks in Western Australia, working on their murals for the local Form Festival in Perth (more coverage here). The artists were painting on separate walls of the same building in the Northbridge area, bringing a taste of their surrealist and meaningful work to the city. After a few months since they first mentioned their upcoming intaglio etching editions, Ukrainian art duo Interesni Kazki has just announced the release of these long awaited prints. Waone, a member of Interesni Kazki (interviewed) together with AEC, recently spent some time in the South India. Known for his love for travels and appreciating ancient cultures and traditions, the Ukrainian artist left an unusual mark in this remote part of the world. As you saw from one of our Streets: World Roundup articles earlier this month, Waone from Interesni Kazki has been traveling through India. It looks like he was able to keep painting as photos a new mural entitled Sadhu have been recently released. The wall located in south-west region of Kerala on the Malabar coast features locally influenced imagery on topics like meditation and the peacock dance that is common in the region. For this week’s video Rewind, we start things off with news that starting Wednesday and running through Feb. 5, about 3,000 New York City taxis will feature a 30-second video from Ryan McGinley. We start this month’s survey of street art with this sweet new piece from El Mac painted on what looks to be the side of a train car. The LA-based artist painted the portrait as a tribute to his friend and gifted photographer Estevan Oriol. AM has been keeping a close eye on AEC and Waone, who together form the Ukranian duo Interesni Kazki (Interesting Fairy Tales). Earlier this year, the two Kiev-based artists had a solo show at Galerie All Over in Lyon, France. Last month, original drawings by them were displayed at Pictures On Walls in a group show coinciding with the launch (featured) of Tristan Manco‘s new book, Street Sketchbook: Journeys.
