Openings: Invader – “Low Fidelity” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

“Low Fidelity,” (previewed) the latest body of work from French urban artist Invader, has taken over Lazarides – Rathbone Place. Featuring his “Rubikcubism” technique, an offshoot of his artistry with colored tiles, Invader utilizes the faces of the popular puzzle game as pixels in his images, which he utilizes to create a new series of classic rock and roll album covers,  sculptures, drawings and mosaics. Invader takes things a step further in some of the works by adding a high-tech twist to his very low-tech pieces through the integration […]

Openings: Crash & SheOne – “Pop Crime” @ Opus Art

Last Thursday saw the opening of “Pop Crime” at Opus Art in Newcastle, featuring the work of Crash (aka John Matos) and SheOne. Crash is a legendary graffiti writer based in Bronx, NY that has been working on canvas since the early 80s and has been putting his mark on the sides of subway cars and NY streets since the original rise of graffiti in the late 1970s. Remarkably, this is the first time that a body of work from Crash has been shown in […]

Streets: Anthony Lister Mural

One of the nicest murals we’ve seen put up in a while comes from Sydney (277 Parramatta Rd to be exact), where Anthony Lister (interviewed) painted over this large billboard. Look for more Lister news to follow as he gets set to open a show at New Image Art in September. Another view as well as some other recent street pieces after the jump…

Update: Audrey Kawasaki

Perhaps inspired by her recent trip to Japan for the opening of her show at Space Yui, we hear that Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) will be including some Japanese-themed paintings in her latest body of work.  One of our most anticipated show is her NY solo at Jonathan Levine this December, so we thought we would share some in progress images that she has leaked so far. More after the jump…

New Artist Focus: Tristram Lansdowne

The upcoming summer group show (teased/previewed) at Joshua Liner Gallery is packed with heavyweight artists with whom frequent AM readers will already be familiar, such as Dave Kinsey, Joe Sorren and Greg Simkins (interviewed). However, the show will likely be many people’s introduction to several up-and-coming young artists. One of those whom we are particularly interested in is Canadian painter Tristram Lansdowne. More after the jump…

Highlights: Recommended Openings For August 13-19

If you are in New York City this weekend, DO NOT MISS the amazing lineup of artists in Joshua Liner Gallery’s “Summer Group Show,” (previewed) many of whom are showing for the first time with Liner and debuting the goodness to come from upcoming shows. Some great shows going off this weekend, so get out and support your local art scene. The full overview of the onslaught of art after the jump.

Preview: Invader – “Low Fidelity” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Fresh off his show at Jonathan LeVine with WK Interact in June, Invader hits the gallery circuit again, this time at Lazarides – Rathbone Place. “Low Fidelity” opens this Friday, August 14th and will include sculptures, mosaics, drawings, a new series of Rubik classic album covers (his tribute to Michael Jackson seen above). If you haven’t had a chance to see his “rubikcubism” technique yet, check this video. See if you can guess some more of the album covers after the jump…

Fame Festival: Blu and David Ellis (Part II)

We told you at the beginning of the week that Blu and David Ellis were hard at work on their newest animated video in Grottaglie as part of their participation in FAME Fest (coverage here.) Additional images of the pair’s work have just been released. We mentioned previously that we were looking forward to the result of their partnership; these pictures certainly indicate that it is going to be something very, very special.

Camille Rose Garcia x “Alice in Wonderland” Book

We thought we would share some images of an illustrated “Alice in Wonderland” book that Camille Rose Garcia is working on with Harper/Collins. We can’t wait to see the signature twists she introduces into this project – who wants to see her Mad Hatter, raise your hand! She must be busy at the moment as she’s also prepping for her solo at Merry Karnowsky (teased) come September. Look for more opportunities to meet Camille as there should be an associated signing tour tentatively scheduled around […]
