SDCC ’10: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Screaming For The Sunrise” Prototype

Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) has almost completed his latest vinyl project with Munky King. The incredible six-inch figure is based on his painting “Screaming for the Sunrise” from his “Hello & Goodbye” solo at LeBasse Projects last year. From what Yoskay told us, the reason it took over a year to design this figure is due to the intricate detailing that was demanded of the figure (i.e. the flames & snout). Numerous prototypes were created and the final product looks like it is worthy of being […]

SDCC ’10: David Choe – “Munko” Figure

When AM visited David Choe’s (featured) secret lair several months ago, we not only got an advance peek at his recently released monograph, but we also got a first look at his Whale “Munko”. Check out our close-ups of the prototype. The toy being produced by Good Smile Company is set to be released this week at the San Diego Comicon (SDCC) through our friends at Giant Robot. The figure comes in 11 colorways in 3 unique sculpted bodies (+1 chase colorway). Even better news […]

Teaser: Mark Dean Veca @ Western Project

It’s been awhile since we last saw Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) at his solo show opening in New York at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, but now we can bring you a new painting by the Los Angeles based artist. This new “Scrooge” piece, done in the usual MDV “Toile de Jouy” style, is slated to be part of his solo show in September at Western Project, the site of an earlier group show he was part of. We’ll have more for you as the show […]

SDCC ’10: Jeff Soto – Seeker

The Seeker from Jeff Soto, an art toy from Bigshot Toyworks that we’ve been following all along its production process, is finally ready for release. We first heard about the toy from Jeff on one of our studio visits, saw a prototype at last year’s SDCC, and finally saw the finished product at his solo currently showing in NY (covered). Now comes word that one of the colorways (looks like a beautiful white to clear fade), a Hi Fructose exclusive and limited to 50, will […]

Signings: San Diego Comic-Con 2010

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 officially kicks off this Wednesday. One of the things we’ve always enjoyed about the convention is being able to chat with some of our favorite artists or for those instances when we’ve been too awe-struck, simply get a sketch or toy signed. This year’s roster has us just as excited. Be sure to arrive at least a half hour before the signing is scheduled to begin as there will definitely be lines. A schedule of the artist signings we’re excited about […]

Video: Kaws x Lindsay Lohan x Complex

It looks like Lindsay Lohan might be doing some jail time soon in the near future, but she did find time to do a photoshoot with Complex that is sure to be the fantasy of some art collectors out there. The troubled celebrity poses with plenty of KAWS graphics as well as with his 4 foot companion and will be the cover of the new issue of the magazine. Take a look at the behind the scenes video after the jump as well as a […]

Openings: David LaChapelle – “American Jesus” @ Paul Kasmin

Last Tuesday night, Paul Kasmin Gallery hosted the opening for David La Chapelle’s latest body of work “American Jesus.” We’re not sure if it’s the gallery or David’s following, but the space was jam-packed with onlookers gawking at David’s elaborate digitally rendered photos. Fans dressed up as if it was Halloween, mingling away, waiting to catch some time with the star artist, and much like last month’s crazy Mark Ryden opening, the action spilled into the adjacent streets. The provocative phototography grabbed everyone attention as […]

Openings: “Viva La Revolucion” @ Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

Saturday evening in San Diego was a great night for street, urban, and new contemporary art. With many of the museums in so-called cultural centers of this country and world still slow to embrace a rapidly growing movement, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego made it clear where they stand with an amazing exhibition of some of the major players in this art “Revolucion”. Not only did the city open up their public spaces to the artists (albeit still with some naysayers), they also […]

Streets: Roa Rooftop in London

AM met up with Roa when he was in London a couple of weeks ago and we watched him in action painting a large wall from a Hoxton rooftop. The Belgian street artist is producing some of the freshest outdoor work around at the moment with his layering and placement of pieces a key ingredient in the strength of his work. Roa spends hours treading the streets of various cities searching for locations for his work. His clever use of dynamics and perspective in his […]

Releases: CEPT – “Again & Again” Hand-Finished Screenprint

It’s not often that you find AM regurgitating a press release, but this email we got from CEPT recently about his newly released hand finished edition made us chuckle so much that we thought we should repost it here in all its glory… I think we all know summer is statistically the best time time to find love, or to put it crudely, at least get your leg over more than usual. While the sun is out and libidos are soaring, It can be the […]
