One of most anticipated shows of the year is coming up at the end of this month at Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles. One of the giants in the “low brow/pop surrealism” scene, Todd Schorr, is opening his first solo show in quite some time entitled “The World We Live In.” Look for much more coverage of this show here on AM in the weeks leading up to the March 28th opening. On the streets: Faile vs. Supreme?

Looks like Faile has been working overtime in the streets of NYC at the expense of Supreme’s Spring ad campaign. Numerous ad posters were altered and remixed across the streets of New York. Faile replaced rocker Lou Reed’s “grill” with their infamous tiger face and also replaced the classic Supreme “box logo” on center of the shirt with the Collective’s catch phrase: “vanity”. Openings: Yoshitomo Nara in NYC

Japanese pop art superstar Yoshitomo Nara opened his new eponymously titled solo show (teased) in NYC last night. Similar to his last several exhibitions, Nara collaborated with the design firm graf to construct a gallery installation, this time consisting of two tree-like, fairytale houses: one containing a mini studio space and the other filled with stuffed animals. A crispy newÂ BanksyÂ just popped up in Gillett Square (Hackney, UK). It seems that the recent “hammering” which the urban art market took inÂ thisÂ week’s auctions (covered) have clearly not affected Banksy’sÂ approach at all. It goes to show that his meteoric rise in popularity the past few years have not gotten to his head. His uniqueÂ perspective onÂ our world today are not driven by speculators or gallerists. UK artist Hush’s latest solo show, “Hymn to beauty” (teased), kicks off on March 5th at Carmichael Gallery in LA. Fresh off his LA show last December (covered), Yoshitomo Nara will be opening an exhibition tomorrow night (6-8 pm) at the Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York. It sounds like a fantastic show as Nara will be showing new paintings and drawings as well as more large-scale sculptures with his collaborative group YNG. Jeremy Fish’s mini show “The Ambush” opened last night at at Fecal Face Gallery in SF. On display was a large wall mural along with some wall wood sculptural pieces (one seen above). Available for purchase was Fish’s largest print to date (22″ x 34″) also entitled “The Ambush” with a run of 30 and reasonably priced for the size at $200.Â Take a look at the print as well as opening photos after the jump…

Auctions: Dreweatts – Urban Art

In a matter of hours, Dreweatts will hold their first “Urban Art” auction of the year, being hosted at the Ultralounge within the London flagship location of Selfridges. The auction features some great pieces by a strong mix of urban artists including: Adam Neate, Banksy, Bast, Beejoir, Faile, Judith Supine, Nick Walker and Pure Evil.
