Baby Tattooville 2008 Wrapup

Baby Tattooville concluded yesterday with a fantastic brunch at the Mission Inn as well as passing out of the “goodie” bags (more on this later). We must say that we thoroughly enjoyed covering this event and would recommend attending next year for anyone interested in this genre. Arrested Motion will be on hand to cover the event again in 2009 and we hope you have enjoyed our on-site blogging this year. Over the next several weeks, we will post some extra stories from this year’s […]

New Mr. and Chiho Aoshima prints

Takashi Murakami‘s company, Kaikai Kiki, had announced the release of new limited edition offset prints by Japanese pop artists Mr. and Chiho Aoshima. As the announcement was made on Kaikai Kiki’s Japanese-language Web site, the details are not clear. AM believes that the sales will be conducted by lottery, and that the sign up for the lottery runs from today through October 12 (Japanese time). If you are lucky enough to be reading this from Japan or to know someone there who can hook you […]

Opening: JR @ Lazarides

Famed street photographer JR opened his show in London last Friday. Much anticipation had built up over the last week because of the large installations he had put up in Soho (teased previously). We had wondered how his art would translate into the gallery setting, but it looks as though he was able to maintain the “feel” of his work quite nicely. By pasting his photographs onto uneven pieces of wood, aluminum, and even a mirror, he was able to emulate his famous style on […]

Baby Tattooville: Art Jam

During the first day at Jeff Soto’s studio, the artists kicked off the ART JAM. What is this “Art Jam” we speak of? Imagine a large blank canvas that Baby Tattooville artists will feverishly work on over the course of 26 hours with each artist improvising and implementing their unique style around the clock to create a collaborative painting. With so many proverbial “chefs in the kitchen,” this could either be an artistic nightmare or masterpiece. With over 15 artists working on one canvas, it […]

KAWS Bronze Head

For those so inclined, a KAWS bronze sculpture (self portrait) will be available at his upcoming show at Gering & Lopez. Sized at 11 x 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches and produced as an edition of 33, every one will be painted a unique color and cost 25K. These heads look like the same basic sculpt that was used for his Bounty Hunter Skull Kun figures seen below. via highsnobiety.

Baby Tattooville Day 2: Riverside Art Museum

After an afternoon of artists alternating between sketching for attendees or working on the collaborative “Art Jam” piece, everyone headed down for the “Beyond Baby Tattooville” show at the Riverside Art Museum. We had previously previewed the show, but there was a new additional piece from each featured artist for sale at this exhibition. See a video of these new pieces & photos from the show after the jump.

Baby Tattooville Day 2: 11-12 pm

The session right before lunch was a panel of three artists: Dave Cooper, Brandi Milne, and Ana Bagayan. Dave did drawings of one of his famous luscious, lavacious, and occasionally obese women. Each attendee of the event was to receive one of these…there were inked drawings for sale too! (look for a future feature on these beautifully rendered drawings). He was also very happy to personalize these drawings to each attendee. Brandi decided to little paintings on matchbooks to give away. She also painted on […]

Baby Tattooville Day 2: 10-11 am

Day 2 of Baby Tattooville kicked off with a presentation by Murphy Design and then moved on to a talk with Bob Dob and Joe Ledbetter about the process of art toy making. Bob Dob described his toy as having three different expressions and holding three different vices.  Once of which was getting drunk…on milk LOL.  His contribution to the “goodie bag” for participants were a special customized “black eye” Luey toy one lucky recipient gets a Luey with TWO black eyes).  He also let […]

Baby Tattooville Day 1: Life Drawing Party

After coming back from Jeff Soto’s studio after dinner. The attendees and the artists came back to the resort and got a very special treat. An authentic “life drawing” session was awaiting… not only for the participants, but also for the artists to experience. This session took us back to an art school 101 tradition… study of the “natural” human form. Yes, a fully nude female to model and hold seductive poses for 20 mins at a time. As part of the real art experience, everyone was encourage to pick up sketch […]

Teaser: Tessar Lo @ Roq La Rue

One of the most talented and thoughtful young artists that we know, Tessar Lo, is having an exhibition on November 7th in Seattle. By now, most of you have probably seen a couple images from the show on the news page of Roq La Rue‘s new website (for example, what is to be one of the larger pieces *seen above*). Well, Tessar was nice enough to forward us several additional closeups and teasers to show our readers. More after the jump.
