Preview / Installation: ROA – “Defragmentation” & “Fragments” @ The Scarlett Gallery

The last time we touched on the work of the prolific Belgium-based ROA was when we came across some of his murals during Art Basel Week Miami (here & here). And, the last time we witnessed an indoor showing from the anatomically-inclined artist was in Australia (covered) back in October. Well, we’re happy to report that he has two concurrent exhibitions planned very soon in Stockholm, one on the 17th at a yet-to-be-announced secret location entitled Defragmentation and another entitled Fragments on the 18th at the […]

Preview: “Taco de Lomography” @ Lomography Gallery Store LA

The Lomography brand has been doing its best for the past few years in keeping the analog film camera alive.  Available in mainstream shops such as Urban Outfitters and Amazon, its affordable products produce nostalgic-looking and creative images for a new generation of snapshot takers seeking images that put them apart from the digital camera set. In association with LA Taco, Lomography presents Taco de Lomography – a series which puts the Lomo LC-A, equipped with a Fritz the Blitz flash, in the hands of […]

Releases: “Cast Light” by Daniel Arsham & Alex Mustonen

On the heels of Daniel Arsham’s exhibition the fall, the ball, and the wall that opened last month at OHWOW, we thought it worthwhile to bring your attention to an intriguing art project he produced not long ago in collaboration with Alex Mustonen. Previously collaborating together on the experimental installation and performance art exhibition DIG, the three-dimensionally inclined artists partner again here on Cast Light, a series of “lights” consisting of a single long-life LED bulb cast within a solid cubic volume of white gypsum cement […]

Teasers: Masakatsu Sashie – “Invisible Hand” @ Mizuma Gallery

In his first solo exhibition since De Facto Standard way back in 2009, Masakatsu Sashie will present a new series of work at Mizuma Gallery that riff on his signature seemingly self-autonomous orbs. Entitled the Invisible Hand, his current body of retro-futuristic work references Adam Smith’s 1759 economic metaphor stating the market magically self-regulates for the betterment of society when individuals act out of their own self-interests, an argument that could easily be considered flawed in the modern era of complex derivatives and rampant greed that […]

Previews: Francesco Igory Deiana @ Park Life Gallery

Francesco Igory Deiana, the San Francisco-based artist we first introduced last year in a well-received Art Focus feature, will be taking part in a two-person hometown show later this month at Park Life Gallery. Opening Friday, February 24th at the Bay Area multipurpose mainstay, the Milan-born artist will show a selection of abstract and pseudo-portraiture work highlighting his technical proficiency with nothing more than a ballpoint pen and ruler, coupled with a wealth of patience and imagination to spare. Showing alongside fellow SF-native Harley Lafarrah […]

Video Release Party: Mark Whalen & Autolux @ Launch LA

During the weekend, Launch LA hosted a music video release party that featured an incredible collaboration by artist Mark Whalen and the music group Autolux. Directed by Thomas McMahan, the music video, which was shown on a large screen through out the night, features Whalen’s work come to life accentuated by a great song performed by the band. We actually got a small teaser of what this video would look like some months ago as Whalen was prepping for his show at the Merry Karnowksy Gallery (covered). […]
