Cai Guo-Qiang – “Sky Ladder” (China)

Explosive Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang recently successfully unleashed his Sky Ladder over Huiyu Island in Quanzhou to celebrate his grandmother’s 100th birthday. This fourth and final attempt is a culmination of 21 years of hard work to realize a vision he had when he was a child. Assisted by a helium balloon and ladder covered with pyrotechnics, the stunning display rose 500 meters into the air and lasted two and a half minutes. After tipping you off a few days ago about Os Gemeos’ three minutes of fame at New York’s Times Square, we now have some photos and video to share of their animation that runs from 11:57pm to midnight each night in August. Releases: Pharrell Williams x Todd “REAS” James x Mr. x Zaha Hadid x Cass Bird adidas Originals Supershell Collection

American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer Pharrell Williams once again has collaborated with adidas Originals on a soon to be released collection with the Supershell. Williams teamed up with Todd “REAS” James, Mr., architect Zaha Hadid, and photographer Cass Bird on a series of sneakers that features a different graphic or sculpt to the shelltoe. Six were designed by Williams himself which in total comprised the 10 different designs, which will be offered in black or white colorways starting next month. Via Hypebeast.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Food Face Portraits As Sculptures By Philip Haas

Currently (thru October 18th) at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Philip Haas has installed his larger than life sculptures that take Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s famous face portraits (made from fruits, vegetables, flowers) into the third dimension. Taking inspiration from the Renaissance painter’s The Four Seasons set of paintings, Haas has impressively recreated the characters in 360 degrees and at fifteen feet high and placed them on the south lawn of the museum. Upcoming: Axel Void – “Sehnsucht” @ BC Gallery

Next Thursday, July 16th, BC Gallery in Berlin will be opening a solo show from Axel Void entitled Sehnsucht. The collective name of the new series of paintings and videos by the Miami-based artist comes from the German noun translated as longing, yearning, or craving or in a wider sense a type of “intensely missing” but is more complex than simply those terms. Previews: Bumblebeelovesyou – “#WhereWeBeelong” @ Thinkspace

Opening on Saturday night (June 20th) in the Thinkspace Gallery project room is #WhereWeBeelong, a new show from Bumblebeelovesyou. The works for the exhibitioni mirror the Los Angeles-based street artist’s outdoor imagery – whimsical scenes of children at play, of course oftentimes dressed in yellow and black or peppered with references to his namesake. Showing: Daniel Arsham – “Future Relic 3” @ Cannes Film Festival

American artist Daniel Arsham is presenting the third installment of his Future Relics series at the 68th Film Festival in Cannes. The short film features actress Juliette Lewis. In parallel to the screening, an exhibition entitled Future Relic 3 on display at the Club Albane at the Marriott, presenting relic items from the film industry era including film camera, microphones to videotapes all recreated in Arsham’s signature technique.
