The Guggenheim in New York is currently showing a can’t miss retrospective from the late John Chamberlain. The renowned American sculptor, known as the artist who successfully translated Abstract Expressionism into three dimensions, is perhaps most most famous for his crushed car pieces, which are despite the materials – collages. As always, AM has more street work to share with you in this week’s Streets: World Roundup segment. Leading things off is this sweet new piece from Zilda (interviewed) in Naples that benefits from a great placement integrating a tree (the extra phallic graf helps keep things interesting as well). As always, the thoughtful French street artist draws his own pieces which are often influenced by classic master paintings (like the work of John Spencer-Stanhope Rodham) and translates them into paste ups. First up for this week’s Rewind feature is this video showing Evan Roth’s novel use of spray cans from his Propulsion Painting series (via today and tomorrow). Sometimes it’s hard to remember that busy international traveler and prolific street muralist ROA is from Belgium based on so many of his works popping up around the world (most recently in Stockholm). We can finally show you something painted in his home country (for the the generically named Street Art Festival) with again some nice incorporation of architectural elements into the piece (windows used as the perch). It looks like Vhils (filmed) has been putting in work in Shanghai as he prepares for his show opening on March 31st at 18 Gallery (presented by Magda Danysz). Like JR before him, he’ll be introducing some of that European street aesthetic to the Chinese port city.
