Videos: Steve Powers (aka ESPO) – “Days”

Peering into the ESPO creative process as it relates to his recent exhibition, Days (covered), which revolved around his practice of producing a single painting – metaltations – every single day as form of artistic meditation, comes a new video, aptly dubbed Days. The footage illuminates Steve Powers as a father and as an artist, focusing on the creation of the 100th daily painting created in succession. A noble accomplishment and a testament to the dedication to his craft, evidenced firsthand by the sheer amount […]

Streets: Eric Haze x Standard Hotel (Los Angeles)

NY graf legend Eric Haze recently flew out to Los Angeles to participate in the MOCA’s Art in the Streets exhibition, but being the busy bee he always is, he also took some time to put up some street work in the City of Angels. Working with the Standard Hotel he painted this great mural outside of the downtown location. Haze sent us these pictures of him creating this beast which measured 40 x 6 feet. This isn’t the first time he’s worked with the […]

Streets / Teaser: Invader – “1000” @ Galerie Le Feuvre (Paris)

MOCA’s indoor space (covered), along with the surrounding outdoor landscape (covered), was infiltrated by Invader’s mosaic minions for Art in the Streets. Apparently, his street invasion, while technically unsanctioned, was so egregious that he was bestowed the unwelcome honor as the first artist to be arrested – though later released and allowed to leave the country – by Los Angeles Police. The LAPD have made their opposition and misplaced animosity regarding the museum exhibit crystal clear, as if on some tireless terrorist hunt wasting resources […]

Streets: ROA (San Francisco)

It would have been a shame if Belgian street artist ROA had a show at White Walls in San Francisco (covered) and didn’t leave behind any artwork in the streets of the city… Fortunately he thought so too. After his Nocal show opening and then his gracing of the walls of MOCA’s “Art In the Streets” exhibition in Los Angeles (covered), he made sure to allot some time to return for the closing party in SF on Saturday night, as well as hit up a […]

Openings: ESPO – “Days” @ V1 Gallery

Steve Powers aka ESPO has had a busy few weeks.  First, came his part in the time-consuming Street Market installation at the MOCA for the historic Art in the Streets exhibition. Then, last Friday in Copenhagen, he opened his latest solo show at the V1 Gallery entitled simply Days. A fitting title as the work in the show includes some of his daily metaltations ruminating on the complexities of everyday life with his poetic world play and signature visual language using enamel paint on metal. […]

Openings: Crash, Freedom, and Risk – “Blurring the Lines” @ Corey Helford Gallery

With the overwhelming success of Art in the Streets, it seems like LA can’t seem to get enough of street art lately. Last Saturday, AM attended the opening of Blurring the Lines at Corey Helford Gallery, which features new work by these East and West Coast graffiti masters. This exhibition marks a moment […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Chicago)

After a little down time since putting the finishing touches on his multi-wall installation of new and old stencil collage works on paper and canvas (covered) for Art in the Streets, along with a nice mural within the MOCA store (covered), Shepard Fairey (featured) made his way to the Windy City last weekend for the Art Chicago Fair. Bringing his Revolutions exhibition for the fair itself, a series of album cover art inspired mixed media works in varying formats and scale first shown in Santa […]
