Openings: Vhils – “Dissonance’ @ Lazarides (London)

After showing at Lisbon’s Electricity Museum / EDP Foundation (covered) and in Paris (covered) over the last year, multidisciplinary Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils returned to London for a new solo entitled Dissonance at Lazarides Rathbone. Running until April 23rd, the exhibition reflects on how various factors in the contemporary urbanized world shapes its inhabitants, while personal identities are vanishing under the visual noise and surrounding clutter. Reflecting this, the subjects being portrayed in the pieces disappear through multiple layering of billboards and stratification on metal and wood. Check out images from the opening below. Pixel Pancho just launched his first solo exhibition in London at StolenSpace entitled Memory of Life. The Italian artist has transformed the gallery space with installations featuring surreal robotic characters using pieces of furniture & musical boxes while also created some sculptures with moving mechanisms, including Michelone, an edition of 10 handmade and articulated robots. In conjunction with Beautiful Crime and Eddie Lock, photographer Jessica van der Weert presents FlipSide, the culmination of an incredible two year project shooting some of the world’s biggest and most influential dance music producers and DJs, following their passions away from music. Having painted over a hundred murals in Tehran, Iranian artist Mehdi Ghadyanloo recently made his debut London show. Entitled Perception with Howard Griffin Gallery, the exhibition featured a series of paintings, miniature sculptures and a cube installation playing with perception and depth. We recently visited the studio of prolific Spanish artist Gonzalo Borondo ahead of his upcoming solo exhibition entitled Animal. Curated by Rom Levy, founder of RexRomae, and Charlotte Dutoit of Justkids, the show will be set up at the Londonewcastle Project Space in Shoreditch. Following the success of the 2014 exhibition Futurismo Ancestral: An Offering to Peru by Sixe Paredes (covered), the collaborative arts organization Approved by Pablo curated a new exhibition entitled Mapping The City in London, running until 15 February. Right after releasing his recent limited edition lithograph (covered), Ludo (interviewed) traveled back to Hong Kong and China, and pasted some fresh works there. Continuing his ongoing Chaos Theory theme with butterflies as a signature character, in Hong Kong he left an image of a butterfly with handcuffs holding his wings along with the Both Sides of a Gun image he introduced in France back in August. We just received these images from Idem Studio in Paris showing Ludo (interviewed) adding final touches to his upcoming lithograph (edition of 99), set to be released Thursday, 11th of December with PrintThemAll studio. The title is 344, and is one of the butterflies he introduced at his recent London solo at Lazarides (covered).
